Be warned, this Hotel offers 5 stars, but is actually split bewteen one new hotel (main entrance) and across the road being an older building. The main building is probably five star in rating, I feel it is lower but the older building is more like 2 star - it's old and grubby, the rooms look like they were fitted out circa 1975 with mould and stuff in the bathroom, stank of cigarettes and had burns in the carpet. I didn't like it and felt the web site pics of the room did not represent what you actually got, so I checked into another hotel for the same price with a much better standard of room. Just wanted to share this.

We spent 3 weeks at the Hotel National in Taichung at the end of July and beginning of August 2007. Our visit couldn't have been more pleasant!

The staff at this hotel is second to none - excellent service is their number one priority! Nothing is too much trouble, no request left unanswered. Front desk and door staff speak English so communication is easy and pleasant.

Our room was HUGE and very comfortable and clean. Daily maid service replenished our refreshments and fruit.

The hotel is centrally located and is across from a wide boulevard park.

The restaurant served an extensive buffet breakfast each day with eggs made to order.

If you're travelling to Taichung, be sure to stay at the Hotel National - you won't be sorry! We'll definitely return again!

A very good selection. Great Staff, Clean, Good value, spacious. good situation. Good restrauant. I would reccommend this hotel for anyone visiting Taichung.

On a recent business trip to Taichung, I stayed at the Hotel National. I found the service to be outstanding, from the bellmen to the desk folks. I arrived in Taiwan without luggage (thanks to US Air in Detroit). The National folks worked hard to trace my errant bags and finally managed to have them delivered to the hotel. Much appreciated. Also, the restaurant in the new wing of the hotel across the street is excellent. I dined on both Chinese and western dishes there. Fresh and tasty cuisine! There is also an upscale Chinese restaurant in the main hotel and that is outstanding as well. The hotel was not crowded in the least. I think other expats probably favor the Landis and the other 4-5 star hotels in Taichung. That being the case, the National is a gem where all the staff knocks themselves out to make one's trip comfortable and accomodating. My only fault with the hotel was the subpar business center. The computers are rather dated and the printer was not functioning. Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay at the Hotel National very much.
