“Service is impeccable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

5* for service -- perfect all over! No flaw whatsoever. Really nice people! Super value, paid less than 100 USD/night and that incl breakfast + internet. Like their gym a lot too: treadmill + dumbbells worked fine for me. Appreciate big safe box.

Continental breakfast with touch of Taiwanese/Japanese style. Indoor ATM. 7-11 store 5 mins walk down to the Love River.

Room for improvement:
- regular old-style door keys (no card system) which lists hotel name and room nr. Didn't want to hand in key each time to reception and thus see this lingering system as a security risk.
- hard beds -- very uncomfortable.
- hair dryers in fixed position over WC (security risk?).
- AC -- very cold and not adjustable. Choice to get a decent temp was to turn off for awhile.

Somebody mentioned that hotel is in need of renovation and yes, I concur, it starts to feel a bit jaded. Paid 235 dollars with taxi from hotel to high speed train station.

Given the outstanding service performance, I would recommend this hotel to any person!

“Good value and location but not 5 star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

Located right by the Love River which is nice for taking a walk. Buffet food is good - but always exactly the same items day after day. When you get tired of Chinese food there is an Outback Steakhouse on the other side of the River - about a ten minute walk. Food is fine - unlike the Friday's restaurant which is about a 15 minute walk in the opposite direction - food was horrible.

Stayed at many hotels in Kaohsiung and this one is nice enough but probably will stay elsewhere on future trips.

“Very Enjoyable and Peaceful Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2010

We spent 4 nights in the Ambassador Hotel, Kaohsiung and really enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is located next to the Love River and we had beautiful views across the river from our room on the 16th floor.

There are two metro stations within easy walking reach of the hotel. City Park Station on the red line is about 10 minutes away. This station is next to Urban Spotlight - a pizza restaurant with live music. Urban spotlight, Central Park and nearby buildings are beautifully lit up at night. The other nearby station is City Council on the orange line about 6 minutes walk from the hotel.

We found all the staff at the Ambassador pleasant and helpful. Our room was spotlessly clean. We had twin beds and they were extremely comfortable. Our room had a mini-safe, tea/coffee making facilities and a flat screen T.V. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. Free toothbrushes, shampoo (no conditioner), soap, razors , hair brushes, cotton buds, shower caps and body lotion were provided in the bathroom.

We were inundated with free bottles of water. Three each morning, replaced with another three when the turn down service came round. There was a fridge minibar in the room.

The hotel had a lovely outdoor swimming pool, open from 7am to 7pm. Swimming season is from 1st April to 31st October. We had the whole pool to ourselves every morning.

The hotel has a Sechzuen restaurant and a Sky Lounge on its 20th floor. They looked fine, but we did not try them. Beer was 200 in the Sky Lounge - quite a lot but I guess you pay for the view. Breakfast was served on the first (ground) floor and there was a Cantonese restaurant on floor 2. We did not eat in any of these places as there were restaurants near the hotel. For example, Outback Steakhouse just across the river.

There was a 7-eleven and a Family Mart minutes from the hotel on the river. We bought breakfast from these shops and ate on the river banks every morning - very mellow and relaxing.

The hotel had a fitness room which we did not try and a sauna you had to pay extra for.

Internet access at this hotel is not free. You will be charged a daily rate of 200 Taiwanese dollars a day.

You could easily reach this hotel by metro from the airport. We had an included transfer as we were on a Dragon Air package.

I would happily stay in this hotel again.

You can hear music from the love boats going up and down Love River in your room, but this does not go on too late. Our room was nice and quiet at night.

“Average but need renovation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2010

Stay at Ambassador Hotel Kaohsiung for one night with family. This is indeed an old hotel that need to be renovated. Narrow and dark underground parking area with gray cement wall made me feel that I were driving into an abandoned building.
Lobby is spacious and well decorated. Checking was smoothy and staff was polite. The room is not spacious but okay. Free bottled water, coffee, tea and safety box is available, but I am disappointed that there is no welcome friut.
This property locates beside the bank of Love River and one can have an open and pleasant river view if the room faces the river.
Our room rate package includes dinner and breakfast. We tried the Cantonese restaurant on the 2nd floor. They offered 5(or 6) courses dinner, yummy.
Lover River is just one minute walk away so we took a short walk along the river bank after dinner. Love River is decorated with brilliant lights and music is everywhere. Really a good weekend night to be here.
This is a average mid-scale 3 1/2-4 stars hotel with good location, but need further renovation especially for the parking area. If you wish to access Lover River easily or great food, stay Ambassador Hotel Kaohsiung won't let you down. Otherwise, maybe you can try other hotel since room rate in Kaohsiung is not rare.

“Good value -”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2010

No complaints on an overnight visit in this elegant mainstay of the Kaohsiung skyline.

Clean, neat, professional and understated. A good value for the money (<$95 USD). Cannot comment on many services as I didn't have time to eat or really do much in the hotel.
