We spent 4 nights in the Ambassador Hotel, Kaohsiung and really enjoyed our stay.
The hotel is located next to the Love River and we had beautiful views across the river from our room on the 16th floor.
There are two metro stations within easy walking reach of the hotel. City Park Station on the red line is about 10 minutes away. This station is next to Urban Spotlight - a pizza restaurant with live music. Urban spotlight, Central Park and nearby buildings are beautifully lit up at night. The other nearby station is City Council on the orange line about 6 minutes walk from the hotel.
We found all the staff at the Ambassador pleasant and helpful. Our room was spotlessly clean. We had twin beds and they were extremely comfortable. Our room had a mini-safe, tea/coffee making facilities and a flat screen T.V. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. Free toothbrushes, shampoo (no conditioner), soap, razors , hair brushes, cotton buds, shower caps and body lotion were provided in the bathroom.
We were inundated with free bottles of water. Three each morning, replaced with another three when the turn down service came round. There was a fridge minibar in the room.
The hotel had a lovely outdoor swimming pool, open from 7am to 7pm. Swimming season is from 1st April to 31st October. We had the whole pool to ourselves every morning.
The hotel has a Sechzuen restaurant and a Sky Lounge on its 20th floor. They looked fine, but we did not try them. Beer was 200 in the Sky Lounge - quite a lot but I guess you pay for the view. Breakfast was served on the first (ground) floor and there was a Cantonese restaurant on floor 2. We did not eat in any of these places as there were restaurants near the hotel. For example, Outback Steakhouse just across the river.
There was a 7-eleven and a Family Mart minutes from the hotel on the river. We bought breakfast from these shops and ate on the river banks every morning - very mellow and relaxing.
The hotel had a fitness room which we did not try and a sauna you had to pay extra for.
Internet access at this hotel is not free. You will be charged a daily rate of 200 Taiwanese dollars a day.
You could easily reach this hotel by metro from the airport. We had an included transfer as we were on a Dragon Air package.
I would happily stay in this hotel again.
You can hear music from the love boats going up and down Love River in your room, but this does not go on too late. Our room was nice and quiet at night.
