The ourside of the building is fairly impressive, giiving you the impression that it might be 5 star, but on the inside it is no more than 2 star in facilities.
I spent two nights there in different rooms. I did get a fairly good sleep, but the first room had a faint pungent smell from the carpet, at least the next day after I changed rooms into an executive room there was no smell. Some parts of the rooms, like the desks, are showing signs of wear and tear.

There is a gym but is is very small and has a limited set of equipment. Certainly not 5 star quality.

The breakfast is very average, they are really just providing human fuel.

I was in a room opposite the executive lounge, but it was closed and locked for some reason. So no executive benefits.

Finally the costs are way above the quality provided.

Nothing about it makes me want to return.

We arrived in Kaoshiung on 22/12/2011 and went directly to the The Ambassador Hotel. It was an extremely nice hotel with very friendly/helpful staff, but not a 5 Star Hotel. The room was clean, comfortable but not spacious. As it was our first trip to Taiwan, we were pleasantly surpised to discover that this hotel was totally NON-SMOKING!! So we didnt have to put up with rude, inconsiderate smokers nor-battle to get a non-smoking floor. This alone would bring us back to this hotel.

Its location is directly next to the love river, so theres a great variety of shops, rest's & bars all close by. Kaoshiung was a great place to stay, very relaxed, clean and the locals very helpful and polite. Not like Hong Kong where we come from. The food and breakfast buffets were excellent.

So if you have young children and/or enjoy nice pleasant, clean NON SMOKING Hotels then this establishment will live up to your expections. Will definately come back to this hotel and town.

In November I stayed at the Ambassador for a conference and had a lovely experience. My room was well - appointed and the customer service from the staff was top notch. I traveled back to Kaohsiung on my own and chose the Ambassador because of the excellent service. In fact, on my first stay I left a piece of my Ipad/Iphone plug in my room. After leaving the hotel, I called and spoke to housekeeping. The plug was waiting for me upon my return visit!

I stayed at the Ambassador Hotel Kaohsiung for business. The location is okay, but the rooms are small and just not what you need for business travel. The desk area has one plug outlet -- a real oddity in this word of multiple devices. Worse, it's awkwardly located under the desk next to the wall, so that every time you need to change plugs you've got to crawl under the desk to do it. In the end I had to use the bar area next to the door (see picture).

The rooms are small and in need of refurbishing...they are really showing their age. I've stayed at the Ambassador in Hsinchu only the week before, which is excellent, so I was surprised at how poorly designed this branch was. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Splendor. I cannot fathom how this hotel got a 5-star rating, unless somebody at the Tourism Bureau got paid off.
