Our recent 16 day holiday was spent entirely at this hotel. Staff very friendly and couldnt' do enough for us. I wanted a tv in my room and they supplied me with one. Beach very clean and the food was excellant. We used the hotel transport to go on tours. We used the local supermarket to do our shopping. Everything was labeled. People in Negombo are very friendly and helpful.Local hospital proved useful to us during our stay.I cannot complain about the food it was excellant. If you dont like it they will always cook something else for you. I spoke to a few holiday makers staying there and they inform me of their stay here for more than 15 years. Some from Britain , germany and Holland.

“Don't stay at the Golden Beach Hotel in Negombo”

For US$26 in Sri Lanka, this should be a lot better. The room was damp, the bed and furniture old and damaged, the mattress very thin, there were gaps around the french window so mozzies came in, the door bolt was missing, and the aircon vent was broken so I had to jam it in place with a matchbox. This place gets no maintenance and simply sponges on tourists just off the plane and staying there just one night. The pool looked OK (I didn't try), but the beach looked rough and univiting. You can stay in much nicer, newer, and cheaper guesthouses (small hotels, really) right across the street for half the money. Avoid this place.

I stayed here in 2003 and was my 1st time Asia. The hotel is simple but the staff is very kind. Great drinks for small prices. The rooms are ok, not realy up to date bute clean shower/toilet and AC, and very spacious.

They have there own beach lot, with guards, in the rainy season although it is not possible to acces the sea.
