As frequent guests of several Sri Lankan hotels from the west coast to the south coast in all price ranges we booked the Camelot Beach Hotel again, in spite of a bad experience beginning of 2011.We thought at that time it was an incident.
We booked at that time directly by phone, however staff forgot to honour our reservation, so we had to find another hotel for a more expensive rate.
This time we thought it would be ok, and made a reservation by phone for two double rooms based on BB.
Arriving at the hotel, the check in procedure was a big mess, no structure, agents breaking in, " unexpected phone calls". It cost us more than 45 minutes to check in.
Once we saw our rooms it appeared the hotel was renovating and dropped us in a kind of jail rooms without any window. Next a bad smell. This all included for just USD.78,00 BB per room. When we complained it cost an extra 30 minutes to speak to GM. We could be " upgraded" however we had to pay an additional USD.40,00 per room ! Even the upgraded rooms ( suites) were in a bad condition and not ready for occupation. We complained again , however staff treatened us as " cattle". I informed GM that I would complain to Sri Lankan Tourist Authority and informed them I would bring this to the attention of tripadvisor.
Unfortunately also other guests experienced same problems. All in all a very bad experience and staff only looking for income and not taking care of the customer. For same value we found Paradise Beach Hotel some 150m further on. More or the less same rating, better rooms and professional service and friendly staff.
