We stayed at the Jetwing Sea for 8 nights from 11-19 January 2012 for our honeymoon.
Airport transfer time is very convenient - it took about 30 minutes during evening rush hour from the airport! On arrival we were offered a hot towel and fresh coconut juice before being escorted to our deluxe room on the 4th floor (top floor of hotel). The room was very spacious with a balcony and generous sized terrace looking out onto the beach and sea (views here are amazing!). There was a large window separating the bathroon and the main room allowing usto view the sea directly from the bath tub!
the room was lovely and had it had not been our honeymoon we would have been happy to stay there, but due to the close proximity to the main road on the other side of the hotel and lack of noise insulation {yet} we requested to change rooms on our second night. The reception and management staff were very accommodationg and upgraded us to one of two suites which was more spacious and less noisey.
We chose a b&b rate so were able to order from the main restaurant's al a carte menu or opt for the daily sri lankarn specials. The food was superb, in the main restaurant, the jetty bar (light bites) and also the seafood restaurant within the hotel. There were so many different options when it came to food, such as a bbq on the beach and a seafood grill on the beach another night. The seafood and fish was the freshest we had ever tasted with prwns the size of lobsters! We were lucky to have private dining on the beach one evening and would highly recommend this anyone!
The staff are what really sets this hotel apart from others, everyone was very friendly and attentive and were happy to cater for any of your needs.
The hotel is literally on the beach and the sea is 100 yards from the hotel balcony, so you really couldn't be closer!
One thing to be aware of, there are some sellers who frequent the beach on a daily basis and can be quite pushy. We learned that it would have bee better from day 1 to say that we were not first time visitors to Sri Lanka and to not tell them when you are leaving! However, on our last day, we did buy a few souveniers from the sellers which were half the price of what was on offer at the airport! Pls note, airport is very expensive steer clear of tea (we got ours from the supermarket in Negombo!)
The hotel is very well priced for the quality of food and service and the extensive wine selection does not break the bank!
We visited the Udawalawe National Park which was a day excursion with private driver from the hotel. Pls note, roads are difficult and was over 10 hours travelling in a day - although was worth it to see the elephants and other wildlife roaming free from an open top jeep! Would recommend this trip but suggest a stop over to avoid long travelling hours.
Lovely hotel, lovely staff and memorable sunsets on the beach!
Looking forward to our next trip!
