This hotel really gets it right. Galle is a lovely town - a must-see for a Sri Lanka trip, all faded glory and mixed cultures, in a pentagonal fortified peninsular when monitor lizards roam the streets and boys dive from cliffs. Take plenty of leisurely walks around town. Galle Fort Hotel then provdes a stylish oasis within this, without going over the top.
The aesthetics are perfect - we had a loft room beauitfully furnished. There's a very nice pool and a serene ambience at all times. At around 14 rooms, it's what we always think of as the 'right size' - big enough to provide options, small enough to care and be different. The service was great too - Oliver was a constant source of good advice but never intrusive, Udaya (sp?) was also very helpful and information, and all of the other staff were friendly. It was faultless, but make sure you don't let that make you stay in the hotel - get out and explore.
