We stayed at Galle Fort Hotel for 4 days in early January 2012 and enjoyed the experience immensely. We had a garden room on the ground floor at the end of the building. Nice and quiet, comfortable room. I thought the room rate was fair given it was peak holiday season.
The staff here were terrific and looked after our every need.
Breakfast was good, and we had some wonderful Sri Lankan dinners. The food was a hilight.
The hotel is well located in old Galle township which is easy to walk around, and a short Tuk Tuk ride out into the new town. We went to nearby beaches everyday, and found Merissa to be the best.
Overall, a small intimate Hotel offering good value with friendly service.
There is new owners and management here so hopefully the standard will continue.

We arrived for our three day stay with great expectations, and we weren't disappointed.
We stayed in a ground floor room in this old Dutch colonial building.
Our room was air conditioned with separate shower room and loo. The bedroom was adequate for us. The best thing about this hotel is the staff. They are friendly and very approachable.
We had a problem with the loo, and it was fixed immediately. The veranda was a great place for drinks, with ceiling fans and plantation shutters. The lobby area was large and comfortable enough to sit and relax. The restaurant extended from this area onto a large back veranda overlooking the small pool.
The food was good. The wine list, as with much of Sri Lanka was expensive. The laundry service was excellent. Out in the morning and back by late afternoon.
I really liked this place, and once again, a hotels' success lies in its staff. This is a great team, many thanks.

We stayed at the Galle Fort Hotel over the Christmas period and had a very pleasant stay. There was no obligation to join the Christmas Lunch/ Dinner which one finds at a lot of places over the holidays and the food, although slightly more expensive than the normal menu wasn't extortionately so.
The rooms were clean and comfortable and yes the A/C worked and cooled the room but once off I found the temperature became pleasant and sleeping wasn't a problem.
All the staff were friendly and helpful and this, as always make all the difference. The 'office' staff also very helpful and arrrangements were made for various trips out and cars arranged, all the drivers were very good.
All in all a good place to stay if a little on the expensive side.

I had a very old suite - huge rooms and high ceilings. Also depressingly dark and somewhat noisy as it faced the street. But the verandah is the reason to stay at the hotel. It was superb. Eat every meal there. I have only rave reviews for the staff, especially the laundry that was exceedingly helpful. the car service franchise, in contrast, is dreadful and difficult to deal with.
