This is a wonderful hotel, beautifully designed with terrific views of the Indian ocean. We stayed in a terrific deluxe room, with wonderful facilities. Superb bathroom arrangements, good big bedroom and nice balcony overlooking the sea. The restaurant was very good and with a combination of both at seat service and buffet a nice contrast from all the other self service international buffets we experienced. We had two unfortunate experiences which is why I have not given this five stars (i) on our departure day there was absolutely no hot water upto 6.15 am so we had to leave without a shower. (ii) our packed breakfast was dreadful. We asked for no sandwiches, at got given sandwiches. The choice of fruit was poor.Normally I would not bother about this but for a five star hotel this is unacceptable. We had no satisfactory explanation to our complaints and would probably not go back now, wevn though the rest of the stay was very good.

I stayed at this wonderful hotel for a week. I had a room facing the ocean offering open sea views and waves crashing on surf. My room was in the main building but I didn’t hear any traffic, only the sea. The big room was pleasant, with a balcony and a big bathroom / dressing room, but with a limited number of hangers.
The staff was charming and efficient. I like spicy food and found the meals in the second floor restaurant superb and with lot of choice. The pool experience was nice with a good “lawn service”.
You can visit the Galle city and other sights nearby with a tuk tuk. In case you are interested in silver jewellery, there are interesting designs to be found in the shops, and the tuk tuk driver will take you there. If you don’t have your credit card with you, the shops deliver the purchases to your hotel in the evening with the invoice. The week was a lovely experience and I intend to return, because there are so many other things to see in this smiling country.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights towards the end of our sightseeing holiday. The rooms were well maintained and the bathroom was huge! My only moan is very small but the plug sockets only seemed to work if the lights were switched on aswell and we had asked for a double and got 2 mattress stuck together.
The pool area was excellent and very clean, towels are provided and there is a well equipped gym.
We ate at Cardamom Cafe on the 1st 2 nights and as we weren't half board we decided to eat off the menu as the buffet was 2400 rupees per person which we thought was expensive. However the food was distinctly average and the service wasn't great (i think unless your eating the buffet your forgotten about). The prices for a main meal start from about 1000 rupees. On our 3rd night we ventured upstairs to the Cinammon room and it was fantastic! It was a little more expensive (main meals starting from 1700 rupees) but well worth it. The service was brilliant and bottled water was complementary. The Coat of Arms bar was on the 3rd floor with a free pool table and little nibbles with your drinks. There didn't seem to be any restaurants outside the hotel. We went on the whale watching trip which was good but you don't get to see that much just a couple of blow holes and the odd tail. We didn't venture to the fortress as $50 per person we thought was extortionate! All in all a very good hotel!

Went to dinner here on the recommendation of our guide book. It is a stunning location, but the food was only just on the right side of inedible and the staff seemed overwhelmed. Disappointing.
