We spent a night at Mama's on a friend't recommendation and were blown away by the hospitality and friendliness of the staff.

The place has an old colonial feel to it, and the 2 guest rooms are simple, but nicely furnished and decored. The location is in the fort, with a super-quiet and relaxed vibe - like time is standing still.

The ground floor is an eclectic shop selling arty bits, and the top floor (a roof terrace) is a great place for views across the roofs, across the fort walls and out to see. A lovely relaxed place to while away a day or two.

I stayed at Mama's for one week, and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. There are only two guest "rooms"; each room actually being comprised of several spaces. The room facing the antique street (it is upper level- so private, and quiet enough- not much traffic in the fort), with foyer (including wardrobe and bench), bedroom with colonial furniture, mosquito netting and lots of light, lovely veranda/enclosed balcony with several teak chairs and a table, and bathroom -is perfect. The other room is also nice, but it just so happens that the one facing front is SUPER NICE. The food. Oh, boy! I think the food at Mama's is some of the best I have ever tasted- really interesting spices, very fresh, generous portions, and taste not "dumbed down" for Westerner's. Highly recommended restaurant, and yes...there is a lovely view of the ocean and other fort buildings. The family that owns the hotel is very friendly and very helpful; as a solo female traveller I felt very comfortable staying at Mama's.

Great, caracterful place to stay in Galle.
Food one of the best we had in Sri Lanka, cannot recommend it enough, typical sri lankan breakfast with excellent fresh fruit, curries in the evening were wonderful, quite authentically spiced unlike many places on the coast where we had some really disappointing experiences trying to get some local food.
Rooms in the hotel are really spacious and clean, but lack a view. They arranged a pick-up-service from the airport, everything was well organised. Very friendly owner.

room is spacious but reasonably basic, although good bathroom and rooftop cafe is lovely with views over the town. Food is good, espec the breakfast.
