“An amazing place to make you vacation fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2010

We stayed in Deluxe room on the first floor for 9 nights. We were very happy to stay in such a great place as Susanthas. Room that consisted of two separate rooms (sleeping room and guests room) was very big, had plenty places and spaces to store our staff. Room had also an air-conditioner (very useful during hot days) and big refrigerator to store fruits bought from local market. An old-fashioned furniture had a special charm that was one of integral parts of fantastic vacation.
The territory of the hotel is not very big, but very very beautiful with a lot of green trees and palms. We saw a very beautiful nuctiflorous tree just near the restaurant.
The hotel has an easy access to ocean beach (just cross the railway station and walk for another 60-70 meters).
Hotel staff is very friendly and flexible. They made their best to ensure that we had a superb stay.

Susanthas has a very very good big restaurant that serves excellent food (mix of Srilankan and European cuisine with deluxe sea food) . We visited plenty of restaurants on the beach shore (Colombo, Galle), inland (Kandy, Nuwara Eliya) and after our stay in Susanthas we undoubtedly would say that it has the BEST restaurant we tried in Sri Lanka which serves very tasty and very fresh food. The waiters are very friendy and take 100% care of you during your visit to restaurant. We stayed in Susanthas during off-season (Mid Oct), and even when there were not so many hotel guests, it was sometimes difficult to find a seats in its restaurant because people from other hotels after first visit to Susanthas' restaurant returned to it every evening. Prices in restaurant are more than competitive and affordable. Dishes are huge. Lobsters, shark, crabs, prawns (jumbo, small, tiger), everything you could only imagine is served in the restaurant.

Susanthas has a very good guide Bob (Nuan). We had amazing trips with him to Galle, river safari, gem shops, turtle farm and mask museum. Trip prices are very reasonable in comfortable a/c van. Going to trips with Bob is a MUST during your stay in Susanthas)))). Bob is studying Russian and speaks English very well. He turned to be a good friend which we could rely upon. He even tought me to ride a tuk-tuk. It was an amazing experience)))
We made a lot of friend during our stay in Susanthas.

Our overall opinion is that Susanthas hotel is a gem of Bentota.

Thanks once again Susanthas' staff, restaurant waiters and chef-cook and Bob for such a hospitality and care taken of us during our wonderful stay in Bentota. We would undoubtedly recommend this hotel as the best in Bentota.

“Very relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

Susantha's reminded me of the old colonial days of the Raj. The rooms had a living area with old fashioned (but lovely)furniture, a bedroom with 4 poster bed and nets and a bathroom. Also, a terrace with huge lounging chairs. I felt that all we needed was a "punka walla"
Very relaxed atmosphere. Very beautiful view into the tropical garden. The restaurant and bar was the other side of the garden and was very popular with the locals. They did tasty and varied food and played English upbeat music.
To get to the beach, you just crossed the rail line. You could also get a "day pass" at the Hotel Serendib for RS400 and stay all day on their sunbeds and swimming pool.
I again used Putha (beachboy) for my trips. I did a 3 day trip to Kandy, elephant orphanage, sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa etc. Also, Galle and a river trip. We crammed alot in but it was still friendly and relaxing and tailor-made.
Brilliant holiday and brilliant hotel.

“An idyllic little spot to relax!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2010

The Hotel Susanth'a is a beautiful and quiet place to stay and I will definitely spend my next visit to Sri Lanka there!!
It's a small hotel with 18 rooms and it has a very familial athmosphere. The staff is funny, friendly, very warm and helpful and speaks English and German. They take care of all your wishes and provide a really great service - with a big smile always!
The ocean is right next to the hotel with a clean, quiet and beautiful beach. The hotel has its own restaurant which serves really good local and European food. There is also a small jewelery shop, an ayurveda clinic and a souvenir shop. The massages of the ayurveda clinic have always been wonderfully relaxing and the price isn't to top! The beautiful garden of the hotel is great for sunbathing with all its tropical plants and birds and gets maintained every day.
The next town Aluthgama is just 5min away and offers a lot of different shops and a lively market every monday. In case you want to go around the country, the hotel staff helps you organizing your tour for a good price! I can recommend going to the Sinharaja rain forest, to the nearby waterfall, the Brief Garden and to one of the many spice gardens.
The rooms are neat, clean and beautifully decorated. The comfort depends on the room price - I was accomodated in one of the standard rooms with a fan instead of air condition, which was just fine for me! The air condition is usually very cold and I think the fan did quite a good job in cooling the room. But in case you want more comfort, you can just ask the hotel staff and change rooms if there are any available.

I can highly recommend staying there if you like it individual, cozy and small! :)

“a great retreat away from the all inclusive hotels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2010

we ate here 4 times whilst staying at our all inclusive hotel, this gave us a nice trip out and a change of scenery and people,an extensive menu with local dishes, pizza, pasta and seafood and we all found something we liked especially the kids (4-6 )the wine was cheaper than the hotel but still expensive,no bad stomachs for the whole two weeks on holiday this was a first, but if you are looking for gourmet food go to paris on holiday, great tables outside with mainly very polite german and dutch tourists, which if you eat just as it gets dark they put out insect coils under the table,if you try and eat anywhere outside in sri lanka during daylight you can get flies,a great walk over the railway line to bentota beach where you can meet the locals and watch them play cricket, take some sweets for the local kids..a great night away from the hotel whingers and moaners..
there are many reviews about how good this hotels food is but it needs to be under restaurants,it is 7 out of 7 in bentota and it is certainly not that...try it...we plan to stay here on our next visit.
