Susantha's reminded me of the old colonial days of the Raj. The rooms had a living area with old fashioned (but lovely)furniture, a bedroom with 4 poster bed and nets and a bathroom. Also, a terrace with huge lounging chairs. I felt that all we needed was a "punka walla"
Very relaxed atmosphere. Very beautiful view into the tropical garden. The restaurant and bar was the other side of the garden and was very popular with the locals. They did tasty and varied food and played English upbeat music.
To get to the beach, you just crossed the rail line. You could also get a "day pass" at the Hotel Serendib for RS400 and stay all day on their sunbeds and swimming pool.
I again used Putha (beachboy) for my trips. I did a 3 day trip to Kandy, elephant orphanage, sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa etc. Also, Galle and a river trip. We crammed alot in but it was still friendly and relaxing and tailor-made.
Brilliant holiday and brilliant hotel.
