We are a family of 4 and spent the New-Year eve and 3 other nights in this boutique hotel. My wife and I took the villa rose and the grown-up children took the other villa. The place is actually pretty small with just place for about 12-15 guests assuming all rooms would have double occupancy. Therefore you quickly feel at home in your big villa with many rooms, tasty furniture and big private garden. The hotel was full when we were there. We found it by internet based on trip advisor reviews.
We were during our 3 week trip in Sri Lanka always in nice big hotels. It was a nice change to be in a small place, but still had great comfort. For me/us it is important to always have WLAN, good food, comfort, cleanness and good service. All this we found at Lilly, like in a big 5* hotel. The nice difference is that you feel like living at a traditional Sri Lanka home, have no elevators, etc...but with the charm of beeing a personal host. The place becomes more busy for the dinner. There is no menu card...just a "surprise menu" ...but food is great, with a "french touch" and served on napkins with candles, etc... If we ask in advance and do not like something, we can ask for an alternative. There is also a cocktail, where you can meet other guests and do some small talk...
But this is clearly more a de lux lodge or guesthouse than a hotel. The traditional houses are in harmony with the nature, therefore in contrary to 5*, there is no air-con just the natural breeze, it is necessary in the night to use the moskito nest, and people should not be surprised to see guekos in the rooms and be waken up by various siging birds in the morning...which we like :)
We only start writing reviews (as we use them...) so we give 5* to Lilly because of the warm welcoming and we see the huge efforts necessary to keep up the high quality of the hotel in all area, considering the difficulties of to guaranty supply of everything in this country.
