“Not a good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2009

Location was out of the way. No coffee or shampoo in room. Lobby and service was impressive, although room was old and small. AC/heater was not quiet. Best thing was that it was a block away from a convenience store and some authentic Korean restaurants with picture menus. Also, free Internet in lobby. For a few dollars more, stay at Novotel - best value esp. if you're taking public transportation or cabs.

“A bit bizarre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2009

This is an odd hotel. It had been open only a few months when I went in February and yet looked like it had been decorated in about 1986. There were many odd touches that made you wonder who was managing the place - the bar closes at 10pm, "and that includes you", so off to bed now. And breakfast was either an elaborate sit down affair wit multiple menus or, well, not really other options. The rooms were fine, but as I say, just very dated. The real plus for me was the restaurant: the owner has ensured it has the best selection of Spanish wine in Korea, which as far as I'm concerned is one of the seven steps to heaven taken care of, and at the same prices Europe... But all told, it is a rather cumbersome hotel without much client-focus, and unless you need to be at the conference centre, it has an unconvenient location.

“OK for a short stay”

Stayed here for a couple of nights in June. The lobby was pretty impressive in terms of space & design. Reception staff were friendly & efficient and spoke a decent level of english. The rooms were acceptable; clean & relatively comfortable. Breakfast was fine in relation to both choice & quality. In terms of location it appeared to be quite far from the main areas of Daegu & as such you may be reliant on taxis to get around. The grounds were lovely & I noted a few guests heading out for a jog suggesting the area has a decent running trail. Overall the Hotel was good, the only thing that put me off was the location being a bit too far out.

  • Liked — The lobby area & the grounds
  • Disliked — The location - a bit far out of town

“The worst service ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2008

I spent two nights at Inter Burgo with my boyfriend over the Lunar New Year. Upon our arrival we were told that breakfast would be included in the price of our room (over 150,000 Won, not cheap at all compared to their standard) and so we were led to our Deluxe Room. The very first impact was already very disappointing: the room was extremely small, with a stained carpet and old furniture, and - much to my surprise - toothbrushes, toothpaste and shampoo were not included in the room rate and had to be bought from the minibar. We were told by hotel staff this is normal in Korea, but we have stayed at a number of hotels in Seoul, Pusan, Jeju, Jinju and so on, and never have we been charged for toiletries before.

In the evening when we went out it was impossible to find a taxi (could have been due to the festivities, though) and we ended up having dinner in their pricey Japanese restaurant, which served us very mediocre food at an extremely slow pace. The following morning we had an equally mediocre breakfast and, when we left, we realized we had been charged the two breakfasts. We tried to protest but to no avail; they blamed a miscommunication problem (very strange I should say, since my boyfriend is Korean and we had asked twice, once in English once in Korean).

Definitely a place I will never go back to.

“Best in Daegu, But Not Up to Seoul's Standards”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2008

This is an eccentric local hotel with aspirations of being a world class property.

The lobby area is very nice, including the odd Spanish theme mentioned by other reviewers (which I found entertaining, but not intrusive).

Service was friendly, although dialog was limited. It is obviously a lot harder to find fluent English Speakers in Daegu than in Seoul.

My room was disappointing, given the fairly spacious and inspiring lobby. I had a tiny, single room and it had an old-fashioned twin bed of the size that one would use for a child in elementary school in the United States. Although the bed was quite firm, I did manage to sleep soundly.

The room had an odd ventilation control that had selections for fan speed of off, low, medium and high. The control would also nicely display the speeds changing. Unfortunately, the fan would not respond at all. Since the window was sealed (unlike nice hotels in Seoul that usually have some mechanism for allowing you to get fresh air into the room) this was a bit of a problem. I had to leave my door open for an hour to let the room air out. Fortunately, I was all the way at the end of the hallway.

My room had wired internet service that was OK. It did not have a speakerphone. Luckily I did not need to take any late night conference calls.

Another problem was the restaurant service. The coffee shop is only open for breakfast (which was quite nice). In the evening I wanted something light. I did not want a 9-course dinner in any of the remaining fancy restaurants. The only thing I could find was the "snacks" in the lounge and these were outrageously priced, although the snack portions were generous.

The fitness/pool/sauna facilities were also annoyingly a-la-carte priced as mentioned by another reviewer. I only tried the Sauna which was very nice. Note: in order to use a Korean Sauna comfortably, you have to be familiar with the etiquette. If you are familiar with etiquette for Japanese "Onsen" hot springs, the Korean Sauna is quite similar. If you are an enormous, loud American and this is the first time you have ever left the country, get a Korean friend or colleague to go with you the first time and explain the procedure.
