“Price was right but......”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2007

Last minute overnight stay so I booked ESA. The other hotels in the area were over $150 compared to $69 ESA ($79 minus $10 promo discount if you signed up for newsletter). I did read all the input here and was hoping for the best since the other hotels were out of my budget.
Check in was smooth and the gentleman assured me my discount was applied. When I arrived in my room(172) I went right to the bed. After taking off my bedspread, the pillows cases were so wrinkeled and appeared dirty. The sheets were as well. The sheets looked liked they never changed them from the last guest. I was aware of all the past comments and brought my own sheets with me. I used them and my own pillows.
Now for the best (yes you guys I should have listened to you)was the bathroom. Housekeeping at this hotel must be retrained.Right on the toilet seat waiting for me was a small black hair.Other hairs were also found when I used my foot and put up the toilet seat. The tub was just as bad. There were black hairs on the inside and around the tub. There is no way you can tell me housekeeping cleaned in there. I came armed with lysol and lysol wipes and used them.I went next door to a friends room in the Marriott and used their shower. The kitchen area I did not touch or use but no visible dirt that I could see. The carpet is dartk green pattern but I would not walk barefoot after seeing the bathroom.
Check out was smooth and the 2nd gentleman told me that he had to refund me $10 since the promo cerfiticate was not deducted. Then came orignal ck in agent who said it was. The problem I had was my final bill was not itemized. It did not list my nightly rate and taxes, it just had $91.19. I questioned again the $22.19 taxes as being quite high but #1 told me it was correct. Upon returning home I have to go back to Albany again and I know in advance this time.I went to Marriott website and booked my reservation. Funny thing that the coporate rate is $79 and with tax my bill will be $91.19. This convinced me I was right about the price at ESA not applying the $10 discount. I have sent a complaint to their coporate offices already .
I would not stay here again due to the funny business with my bill, especailly since I paid cash and the dirty room.
Price was an issue for me and I was so uncomfortable staying here. I already reserved another hotel since my plans will bring me to Albany at least 4 more times this year. Can't wait until the Hilton Garden Inn opens next door.
I have been to 1 and 2 star hotels in other countries as well as the US but this was the dirtiest.

“Didnt mind it at all”

Got this hotel thru Priceline at cheap rate. Didnt mind it as much as other reviewers. Our room was not dirty and bed was decently comfortable and cheap. The kitchen and frig come in handy. No ice machine in building is somewhat inconvient (have to use ice trays in your room). If i was in Albany again i would look at other hotels, but if this hotel still was best deal i would stay here again.

“Do Not Stay Here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2007

This hotel is, BY FAR, the worst I've ever stayed in. I had the misfortune of being put up here for a week (May 17-24) on business. Where do I begin?! First impressions: the hotel itself smells like stale cigarrette smoke, vinegar, and something fried. Once I got to my room via the painfully long corridor, I instantly smelled cigarrette smoke even though, supposedly, I had been given a nonsmoking room. The carpet was rough and did not inspire cleanliness, especially along the walls where there was lots of filth. My bed was comprised of less-than-white 50/50 200 threadcount sheets, a vellux blanket (we all know those never come clean--if they even get washed), and a very itchy and pilled up comforter. There was some kind of splatter stain on the wall near my bed. My phonebook was stuck firmly to the bottom of the nightstand drawer. The kitchenette did not have any dish soap or paper towels. One of the two plastic drinking cups was dirty in the bottom. I had one fork and two mismatched spoons. I found two dirty towels hanging behind my bathroom door. There were whiskers around my bathroom sink, and lots of brown scum and more whiskers behind the faucet. There were only 5 clothes hangers. The TV only got 15 channels (including 3 Showtimes), and the remote was filthy. I brought a DVD player, but there was no way to hook it up to the TV (shame on me for assuming). The parking situation is bad: when returning from work late at night there are minimal entrances near the parking areas. As a single female traveller, this is not safe. Furthermore, I received a lewd comment from a sketchy guy hanging around in the lobby one night. Oh, and this about sums it up: THERE WAS A BUG IN MY BED. I lost sleep after finding it, lying awake thinking surely I would bring an infestation of bedbugs into my own home. Luckily I didn't find any more bugs, but ONE IS ENOUGH! Good riddance Extended Stay!

“Never Again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2007

I would never recommend this place to anyone. The cabinets, dishes, and counters were distinctly dirty and grimy. There were spiderwebs in the bathroom and in the kitchen. I had to go out and buy cleaning supplies to re-clean my room. Every person that went in and out of their rooms let the door slam shut, which echoed throughout the hall. The "high-speed" internet was nonexistent. Contacting the internet help desk was no help. All they could do was reset the internet server. When the question was presented to the front desk about some tips that may be useful in getting a better connection, the answer given to us was that our side of the building doesn't get a good signal. But the hotel was still happy to charge us the $5.00 internet usage fee. Two days into our stay, I did some laundry. I purposely used a dryer was used by another resident, while my clothes were washing. Just to be sure that the dryer would be hot. As it turns out, the dryer was not getting hot. It had been running for 30 minutes when I checked it and went to the front desk to inform them and get my $1.00 back, since their machine was not working. The guy up front told me that it sometimes takes a while to warm up the dryers and to let it finish "drying", then he'd refund my money if my clothes were not dry. So 15 minutes later, I walked back up to the front desk to get my refund. Three days into our stay, we noticed an army of ants in the kitchen, surrounding the trashcan. I went up to the front desk and informed the guy up front about the ants and to get some bug spray from them. They didn't have any bug spray and the guy said he wanted to come to the room to see the ants. About an hour later, I called the front desk to see if the guy was really going to come check out the ants or not. His response was that he called some pest control guys and they would be there shortly. After waiting for another hour, we went up to the store to buy some bug spray. When we returned, there was no sign that pest control people had come. So we sprayed the ants with the bug spray we bought and went back out to finish our errands. When we returned that evening, there was still no sign the pest control guys ever came. The next day, I requested we be moved to another room, with a better internet connection, since the ants had once again returned. The next day we moved into a new room. I still had to re-clean the cabinets, counters, and dishes, but no sign of any ants. The internet connections was a lot better, since we moved to the side of the building that receives it better. The room was tolerable until the room above us was occupied. Every move the occupant above does, we hear. Every person that walks up the stairs, we hear. When I called the front desk to complain about the constant banging from upstairs, I was told to that they can't do anything about it. So I asked if they maybe couldn't call up there to ask him to quit banging. The person at the front desk reluctantly agreed. Just not a real good experience.

“Oh my!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2007

This was not the dirtiest place I have ever had to stay and, on a positive note the elevator worked really well. But this is the place that caused me to add disposable toilet brushes to my ever growing stash of necessities. The cleanliness of the bathroom was pretty questionable. The dishes that were provided in the kitchenette had to be soaked before I could wash them. I had no dish cloth, hot pad or dish towel which are usually provided and only had one wash cloth. I went down to the front desk to ask for the missing items and was told sorry but they did not have enough linens to go around, and if I came back around 10pm when the laundry was being done I most likely could get the items then. They are suposed to clean the rooms once a week, but my room was not touched in the three weeks I had to stay there. My cleaning day was supposed to be on Thursday. it was missed, Thursday after work I called the front desk to report my room needing service and was told it would be taken care of Friday. It didn't happen. Friday I called again and was told they would be up Saturday. Saturday afternoon, when they still had not come, I called again, explaining that my room STILL had not been touched and I would like clean sheets. I was told that my cleaning day was Thursday and there was no way I could expect them to come three days later. This is the only Extended Stay that ever charged me to send a fax. One desk clerk refused to give me a blanket for my bed, stating that they did not provide blankets for the beds. It was only after other guests walked in, while I was explaining that I was quite sure that the hotel did have blankets for the guest beds, that he went and retrieved one for me. If cleaning your own room and fighting with desk clerks are not your thing, you might want to stay elsewhere.
