We stayed there on a half board basis with my wife and 3 year old child for a 2 week holiday around new year.
If it were true that a hotel is all location, location and location, the New Emerald Cove would be one of the best hotels in the world. Unfortunately, other things matter, and this hotel fails to deliver many of them.
Accommodation is ok but not luxurious, and many details in the rooms could be improved (better bathrooms, black out lining on the curtains, better organisation of the cabinets).
What is really below expectations is the bar and restaurant. Gin tonic seems to be the most sophisticated cocktail that they have heard of (but tonic was not available for several days!), the wines were simply appallingly bad (except for Laurent Perrier which was ok). Is this due to the storage conditions or the choice of the hotel? Hard to say.
The food was really mediocre (with the exception of the new year dinner) and boring, with buffets that, being basically the same day after day, give you the feeling of being on the cast of Groundhog Day - tropical style.
To finish on a more positive note, the beach was excellent, particularly well suited for young children, with plenty of available chaises longues and tree shade, wonderful water and great snorkelling, the water sport facilities were good, the gardens and the surrounding landscape very beautiful, and the staff, although not as efficient as one could hope, generally friendly.
