“Really not great”

We stayed there on a half board basis with my wife and 3 year old child for a 2 week holiday around new year.

If it were true that a hotel is all location, location and location, the New Emerald Cove would be one of the best hotels in the world. Unfortunately, other things matter, and this hotel fails to deliver many of them.

Accommodation is ok but not luxurious, and many details in the rooms could be improved (better bathrooms, black out lining on the curtains, better organisation of the cabinets).

What is really below expectations is the bar and restaurant. Gin tonic seems to be the most sophisticated cocktail that they have heard of (but tonic was not available for several days!), the wines were simply appallingly bad (except for Laurent Perrier which was ok). Is this due to the storage conditions or the choice of the hotel? Hard to say.

The food was really mediocre (with the exception of the new year dinner) and boring, with buffets that, being basically the same day after day, give you the feeling of being on the cast of Groundhog Day - tropical style.

To finish on a more positive note, the beach was excellent, particularly well suited for young children, with plenty of available chaises longues and tree shade, wonderful water and great snorkelling, the water sport facilities were good, the gardens and the surrounding landscape very beautiful, and the staff, although not as efficient as one could hope, generally friendly.

“Not great”

Just stayed in the hotel for a week. It's in a beautiful spot and the water at the front is so clear with great snorkelling. The fact that you have to get a boat anywhere would be okay, if the boats ran more often. There is a timetable you are given on arrival but the boats don't necessarily run to that. The timetable in the room is also competely different. The hotel should just run more, and perhaps every hour. There is a safety limit of 18 passengers on board, but a few times we were over this number - one trip there were 27. When the hotel were informed of this they didn't seem to care or bother with the complaint. It just seemed obvious to us to put more boats on. The superior rooms are all upstairs - they have no outside space, which is disappointing. There is nowhere to dry towels, swimming things etc. The standard rooms do have their own outdoor spaces. We asked to change rooms, but never got a response. Some of the staff are lovely (cleaners, boat crew, in the restaurant) but the receptionists are rude, and the management pretend to make an effort but really don't care. It just seems to be money they are interested in and as the hotel was full, our concerns did not bother them. Overall it was disappointing and we would recommend staying on proper mainland Praslin rather than here.

“Super Hotel”

A really good hotel for those who are looking for something out of the way. The hotel is rather like a country club - well spaced chalets, excellent food in a cathedral like dining hall/bar (open sided), swimming pool and good swimming / diving in the sea in front of the hotel. The hotel is only reachable by boat which runs maybe five times a day, so you will be well secluded.

If you want a party atmosphere, a high rise/crammed and busy feel in your hotel this is not for you. But if you want seclusion and sufficient luxury then we can only recommend this hotel.
