“Les Laurier guest house, Praslin”

We have just returned from the Seychelles and stayed at Les Laurier guest house for 4 nights. We could not afford to stay at some of the very pricey establishments so I suppose took pot luck with trying smaller ones. We were extremely pleased with our choice on Praslin as the room at Les Laurier was excellent. The guest house itself is set in a large pretty garden central to all amenities, beach, bus stop, bank, restaurants etc and yet tucked away from the centre of Anse Volbert. The staff were extremely helpful and can arrange boat trips, walks etc for you at a very competitive price. It also has the advantage of having a very nice restaurant serving creole food most evenings if required. I have no hesitation in recommending Les Laurier and we would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Bungalows are in pretty garden, 2 Upstairs rooms although lacking phone and tv, large and excellent...

“Great buffet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2011

Nicely situated at Cote d'Or, just across the road from a beautiful beach. Lovely room, comfy bed, good walk-in shower though the bathroom floor gets drenched. We stayed 4 nights on half-board basis. Excellent buffets at dinner, and the restaurant has a nice ambience. The breakfasts are extremely basic continental; if you want an egg, or anything other than fruit or plain white cottonwool toast, you pay extra. Management/owner spoke to us only once, while I was standing at the buffet on the 3rd night: "Room 2? You have to eat out tomorrow as we are closed on Wednesdays." I remarked that we were on half-board and she replied that we would be charged B&B rate for the last night. The staff were friendly enough, but none asked at any time if all is well. You are just a room number. We don't expect special attention, but a little more interest would have made a big difference. Would we stay again? Probably not, but we would go back for the evening buffet.

“Clean, comfortable, good location, and GREAT food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2011

We stayed at three different places in the Seychelles. Les Lauriers was by far the best value for money. The rooms were very well equipped: big bathrooms, comfortable and clean bed, nice patio, in-room safe, fridge, tea kettle, tea/coffee, and air conditioning. It's right across the street from Anse Lazio and there are many other hotels, restaurants, and shops located just nearby.

The biggest praise I can give this place is the food. The breakfast were yummy and the evening buffet and fish BBQ was the best creole food we had anywhere in the Seychelles. It seems expensive, but compared to what you get for a similar price in other restaurants it offers a lot more value for money.

The only con I would mention is the security, but this a problem in general in the Seychelles and not just at this hotel. They very clearly warn not to leave anything on the patio overnight. Sure enough, some guests had things stolen off the patio at night. Again, this is not particular to this hotel, as we experienced this type of petty theft other places in the Seychelles as well.

I would stay here again and recommend this to anyone looking for a good value and good quality place to stay on Praslin.

“great guesthouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2010

Laurier was our 3rd guest house on the Seychelles and by far the best!
Our room was huge, very clean with a nice balcony and a great bathroom incl. a walk-in shower. Owners Edwin and Sybille definitely have an eye for detail, whether it's the accomodation itself, the yummy BBQ-dinner or the boat excursions they offer.
We really enjoyed our stay at Laurier and would always come back!

“A “home” among the locals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2010

For our 3 nights in Praslin, we stayed at Laurier, situated near the very beautiful Anse Volbert, also known as Cote D’or. We took a taxi from the jetty (EUR 10) for the 15 minutes’ drive to the guesthouse.

The charming guesthouse has 5 linked-chalets on the ground and another room on an upper level of a building. It has its own restaurant and bar and is beautifully surrounded by lots of plants and trees, giving one a very homely and shady (and lazy !) feel. We fell in love with the place instantly and felt so at home in our chalet. The compound of the guesthouse itself is situated amongst some local houses, making us feel as if we are part of the village community - exactly what we always crave for in all our travels.

The beach is just a short walk across a small street, with a pizzeria nearby, some sundry and souvenir shops, an internet café and 2 diving centres within walking distance, ie. the Octopus Diving and the Whitetip Diving Centres. There are also some restaurants around the guesthouse. The Berjaya Praslin is just next door and further down the beach, there is the Sun Paradise Hotel. The very busy and highly recommended Gelataria da Luca which serves very delicious fruit juices and ice creams is only about 200 metres away.

On our first night, we stayed at Chalet 2 which has a double bed with ensuite bathroom but on the second and third nights, we were transferred to Chalet 4 (for some piping work to be done in Chalet 2), which is larger – with a double bed and 2 single beds.

Both rooms are clean and spacious, with an espresso machine (but you have to pay for the drinks) and complimentary coffee and tea. The chalets are very beautifully built, with tree trunk pillars, leafy roof and a spacious terrace outside with rattan chairs.

We had dinner at its restaurant (which is opened everyday except Wednesdays) on one of the nights and paid EUR 25 per person for the buffet. We enjoyed a wide spread of local salads (there must be about 15 different varieties!), the very delicious grilled fish and chicken, complete with special Creole sauce, rice, big, fresh king prawns and out-of-this-world fish soup.

The only disappointment we have with Laurier is its rather light breakfast. We were only served a small platter of fruits, some toasts with butter and jam, coffee or tea. Other than that, we could not find any fault with this charming place and we will not hesitate to recommend it to others who wish to live like a local in Praslin.
