“A good quality hotel and experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

We Island hopped during our stay and on final stop decided to upgrade from budget hotels. Found it very acceptable although the buffet food (apart from the Creole Buffet) can get tiring and suggest you mix with a trip to local places. Good fun and experience that way. Hotel right on marvelous beach but watch the sand flies and protect. Was disappointed that they could not do anything special for a big birthday dinner but accept that if they do it for one thaen they have to do it for all.

Room Tip: Liked the upstairs room

“UNBELIEVABLE PEOPLE COMPLAIN OF SEAWEED - AT THE SEASIDE!!!”

Indian Ocean Lodge is a lovely place to stay. it is like paradise. We stayed there for our 25th Wedding Anniversary Holiday and loved it. You have to do your research before you go anywhere and read up on where you are going to avoid any shocks. If the thought of going to the seaside and horror of horrors you bump into some seaweed on the beach then beware lol.
To be serious for a minute from the top;
very quiet clean tidy well maintained hotel
very quiet island
not a lot happens
it is peaceful
it is expensive - but local indian 'corner shops' make it more affordable.
a week would have been long enough for us but we booked for two.
try a week on Mahe and a week on Praslin.
You can visit the wildlife paradises of Aride, cousin and Cousine Islands.
You can day trip to La Digue Island - great fun.
Everything at Indian Ocean was perfect except the cost and the humidity in the restaurant - over bearing and no fans - ridiculous.
We ate out most nights in local restaurants and other Hotels especially the Britannia with its superb fish and chips (yes I know but I NEVER eat fish and chips!)
Would we go again - fore sure but not with any one who was scared of a bit of seaweed!

Room Tip: In blocks of four we had a 1st floor room - lovely sea view with balcony!

“Almost perfect”

Our first visit to the Seychelles. This hotel was very good, the staff friendly and the food generally good especially if you like fish and rice ! For the Easter weekend they put on food specials including a suckling pig which was superb. The staff wore traditional costumes and looked very good. We found it much cheaper to get drinks from the local shop only 3 or 4 min. walk away. The only issue was the seaweed which affects all the islands on the windward side. Indian Ocean Lodge provide a free bus service to get you to the other side of the island where the beach and facilities are just about as good as it gets.

“DONT DO IT WITH DERTOUR and WATCH OUT if your hotel is not located in MAHE!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2011

Amazing islands, Seychelles is the destination, just a paradise. Good hotel and location. Poor service and unfriendly staff.

My partner and I spent 10 days in Seychelles. No words to describe the beauty of the islands and the beaches. Nice hotel location, a few foosteps from the beach. As u get in the reception, u can see the pool and the beach from the entrance. The double-shower bathroom and the room were quite clean, with A/C, fridge, free safe..., no complains at all. From the balcony there was a very nice view, with the palms garden and the sea just a few meters away. Very quiet and peaceful place. The beach was empty of people most of the time!.

Breakfast buffet was quite poor in varitey and quality. I am not very fussy about the breakfast (In fact, I prefer a small buffet, otherwise I eat too much and I feel bloated the whole day! :-)), but I consider that, for that hotel, location and price, you can expect much more.

Something I did not like was that they did not inform you about the prices for dinner. There is a written menu, but no word about the prices. Food was nothing special, a bit bad I must say. Every Saturday there was a "Creole Buffet", and I must admit that it was quite good, as I love fish and the creole sauce, but there was plenty of good stuff such as cakes.

There are not many restaurants close to the hotel, and only one which can be reached on foot, called Britania (the grilled fish with creole sauce is quite good). If u want to go somewhere else u will need to rent a car or get a bike.

We booked with DERTOUR and everything seemed to be fine. The big surprise comes when, after arriving at Victoria Airport, we found out that THERE WAS NO TRANSPORTATION MEANS BETWEEN THE ISLANDS FROM 17:00 H TO 10:30 the NEXT DAY!! That means that, if you arrive to Mahe Island in the evening and your hotel is not located in Mahe, YOU HAVE TO SPEND THE WHOLE NIGHT AT VICTORIA AIRPORT!!, were there was nothing, nothing at all. We were quite upset about that issue, because our operator, DERTOUR, NEVER WARNED US about it. We booked 9 nights at the Indian Ocean Lodge Hotel,...(1 NIGHT LOST). Well, despite we felt dissappointed, cheated and tired we tried to think positive and decided to enjoy the rest of our stay, that was great.... But, the problems turned up again the last day. Our flight was departing at 03:55h., but the LAST FERRY leaves Praslin to Mahe at 15:00h. That means that we had to think of what to do during more than 10 HOURS in Mahe with our luggage. Well, as I was aware of that issue, I tried to avoid that. and I contacted our "German representative" in the hotel and I explained our problem. I proposed her to contact DERTOUR, and swap the last night in the Indian Ocean Lodge for one night in ANY other place in Mahe, just in order to have a place to stay and to sleep before the long trip back. From our perspective, it seemed quite a fair deal, especially due to the fact that DERTOUR never said any word about the problems we were going to face the day of arrival and the day of departure. Well, our representative was not helpful at all, and she just wrote a "message" to them, ignoring the urgent nature of our problem. Then, i decided to contact DERTOUR but they said that was our problem and that we were already aware of the transportation problems...(!!). Shortly after, I wrote them an e-mail and I am still waiting for the answer.(1 MORE NIGHT LOST!) That thing really upset me, because for DERTOUR is very easy to swap one night in one place for another somewhere else. They can arrange it just sending a fax...., and we have to take into account that, at the end, WE PAID 9 NIGHTS AND WE STAYED 7. More than unfair, isn't it?. Well, DERTOUR thought otherwise and I strongly recommend not to do any booking through DERTOUR.

Well, we took the last ferry at 15:00h. and we were taken to the airport. Once there, we managed to leave our luggage in a "left luggage" room, for which we had to pay 20 eur. (the door was closed and the person was not there, we have to phone him up using the number written on a sticker posted on the door) and at least, we took a taxi to Victoria and we went around the city where the "1st International Carnival of Victoria" was taking place and we could kill time before picking up our luggage (NLT 23:00H, closing time of the left luggage room).

Despite our hotel and the location was very good, I recommend to get accommodation in La Digue, you will not regret. In La Digue u can find the most beautiful beaches of the planet!! If one day I decide to go back, it will be in La Digue.

So remember, if any of u is planning to travel there, keep in mind that there is no transportation between the islands during the evening and night. Enjoy your stay.

Jose.

“A 'wow' hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2011

Arriving at this hotel gives a ‘wow’ moment as you look through the plush reception to the pool, beach and sea in front of you. You walk out onto a deck which hosts tables, chairs, recliners and the restaurant and surrounded by palms. The beach is just footsteps away.
The room is in a block of four with a outdoor sitting area. Inside the bed is beautifully made up with flowers to emphasise. The bathroom is bright clean and has a double shower. The main room is a bit dark though due to all the heavy shutters.
The restaurant is faux French, which is a bit of a let down. There are no prices quoted as it seems most people were on half board, so us B&B’ers were left in the dark. French food in a tropical setting where local creole food could be served is inappropriate in our opinion. It’s too fussy, too complex and also too expensive. Breakfast is a buffet with a great selection of fruits, cereals, breads, meats eggs etc.
Staff were friendly, especially the restaurant staff working the breakfast shift. Reception staff were variable.
