We first found the Shavit Guest House in 2006 and it is our place of choice when we want to spend time in the Galil and Golan. Each suite has a full kitchen, sitting area, bedroom and bath with Jacuzzi. The room we had in early December even had a balcony overlooking the gardens and pool. Sara has added lots of homey touches which make it that much more comfortable and the bowl of just picked oranges from their trees was appreciated. We always start our day with one of Chef Israel's sumptuous breakfasts, just 100 feet from your room. He's come a very long way from being a sheep rancher. Locally grown vegetables, fresh cheeses (5-6 kinds), hot bread, warm jam made there, olives and of course shakshuka (bakes eggs with spicy tomato sauce) and cookies. Order mint tea & the herbs are picked from the garden while you watch through the window. Each day they sent us off with more oranges, plastic knives and a trash bag. The restaurant is open to the public as a separate entity from the Guest House. Dinner is amazing with plenty of choices including fresh fish, veal, beef and chicken. Share the huge appetizers, pace yourself and leave room for a shared dessert. Wine list is small but showcases some great wineries from the immediate area. Try an after dinner cordial of Israel's cherry liquer or lemoncello made with their own lemons. He also started making chocolates. Tour the wine cellar and buy bottles of the cordials, select chocolates to make a sampler and don't forget the orange jam.
