We didn't have a choice about staying at the hotel since my husband ran a birthright trip and the group was staying there, and I was VERY nervous after reading the reviews (and contacted the nice lady who said it wasn't so terrible there - thank you, it wasn't). When we got there Tuesday afternoon it was DEAD. They literally had to turn lights on in hallways, but by the end of the week there were 2 other groups staying there and LOTS of Israeli families who came for the weekend. It's true there are no deadbolts, and we broke into our own room with the do not disturb sign, we were on the second floor in the kinneret wing because the rooms were bigger and we asked them to switch is to the 6th floor (closer to the lobby, the floors go down the side of a mountain) which was smaller but the door frame was blocked off so you couldnt slide anything it. Food ok, great russian chef made fresh pancakes every morning that my kids LOVED, i wanted the recipe and he laughed that an american taught him, GEORGOUS views of the kinneret, beautiful balconies, and a nice pool with a kiddie pool too. the hotel has TREMENDOUS potential, it was run by Sheraton at one point, and it has gotten a little run down, but it really wasn't so terrible staying there, we had 2 interconnecting rooms. it is about a half hour walk to the downtown area, but for my husband's group it was a good thing, and we had a rental car, it's in a residentail area so parks, playgrounds and mini markets were just steps away. I don't know that I would CHOOSE to vacation there, but if I had to stay there again, I definitely would!
