Before staying in this hotel we reviewed the official website, coffee and tea making facilities: check. Air Con: check. It seemed like a nice hotel. On arriving with our party of 12 we were given a "welcome drink" of a tiny glass of weak lemon cordial. We then made our way to our room with our cases. The "bell boys" would have done it but no doubt would have wanted a tip, if locals so much as breath in Israel it seems a tip from the tourists is required.. The first thing that hit us on entering the room was the heat, the second the stench of cigarette smoke. No problem, we thought, turn on the AC - only the staff have decided it's not hot enough to warrant it (it is if you've come from a freezing UK winter) so it wont work and they aren't going to change their minds. OK, open the window, the traffic noise is so loud we can barely hear ourselves but at least there's some (warm) airflow and over the next 48 hours the stench of tobacco slowly subsides. Our friends made more of a fuss over the smell and were basically offered a can of air freshener! OK, well we'll have a nice cup of tea - great except this has yet to be provided so it water only. 2 shameless lies on the website then - isn't there something in the Torah about that? The food is fairly standard Israel hotel fare, olives, salad, over-cooked meat, stodgy rice/potatoes you know the sort of thing, their awful fat-based cream substitute. The restaurant is reminiscent of a school dining room but it does the job. Staff throughout the hotel have the typical Israeli brusqueness you should come to expect. On the plus side despite what others have written Tiberius IS in easy walking distance and there are some nice shops, ATMs that probably wont accept your card, and views but if you get the chance to stay in the kibbutz on the other side of the sea I would jump at the chance, it's a thousand times better.
