Stayed here for two nights. The entrance and lobby are impressive. In the circular lobby, they maintain a beautiful fountain with floating flower petals in pretty patterns. The lobby was quiet comfortable to lounge away at, which was helpful if you want to use wifi since signal strength in the rooms was poor. Of course, lobbies are not everything. The rooms themselves were disappointing. Although comfortable enough they are definitely older, haven't been renovated in probably 15 years and are definitely getting worn around the edges (although we did see lots of posters with a possible future renovation happening). Overall we felt the rooms were poor value compared to other top hotels we stayed at in Sumatra. However, a much bigger frustration, (and one which led us to leave Bukitinggi a day earlier than expected) was the noise level at night. Our first night there, a Saturday, unfortunately coincided with a wedding. Music blasted from the hotel restaurant until midnight. We complained but were reassured it was just because it was a wedding. Our next night, we were surprised when the music once again started, this time loud (and terrible) karaoke that started at 10 and went until 1 am or so. It wouldn't have been so bad, except that the design of the hotel is that all rooms open directly into circular hallways that look down into the lobby. So if there's any noise coming from the lobby/restaurant, it goes straight up into the rooms. Since the doors are not particularly thick and have gaps, there was no sound isolation. Worse, the beds were uncomfortable. My parents moved rooms twice because they were unhappy with their beds. Overall I would not recommend this hotel. If we'd heard of a better hotel in the city we would have moved there. Bukitinggi was enjoyable to visit, but I would not linger at this hotel.
