“Paradise just a few hours from Singapore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Stayed as part of a large group whih had booked out the island for a party. It was our first time but many of the other guests ewre repeat visitors; and we could quickly see why.
The island is about a 55mins ferry, 50min drive, then 20min boat trip from Singapore; so allowing for time at terminals and customs etc. if you leave Sinagpore around breakfast you'll be here in time for lunch.
Our room was stunning. Bedroom up stairs was large and airy with views out to sea. Downstairs was a huge "chill out" area with seats and a large day bed for lazing away the hours. Bathrooms (one upstrais and one down) were beautifuly designed and spotless. With the stiff sea breeze we had no issue with mossies in the rooms and didn't bother with the net on the bed at all.
Food was very good (particularly the Indonesian meals..why they bother with attempts at "European" food I don't know really!) although we would have liked to have seen an Indo option at breakfast. A plate of tasty fried rice with an egg (or something similar) would have been a more popular option that the attempt at eggs and bacon. However, this is a small criticism of otherwise lovely food.
Staff were super-helpful and friendly. We had no kids with us but most others in the groupd did and th staff did a great job keeping them entertained. Kids mela times at lunch and in the evenings meant the adults could really kick back and enjoy themselves!
The pool area is a delight; although it's a fair walk from the rooms at the other end of the island (about a 5-7min walk).
If you want things to do they have sailboards, kayaks, paddle boards, lasers and cats, snorkelling/diving, rock climbing and I'm sure they could organise just about anyting else you might fancy if you asked nicely!
...but it's not cheap!

“Great place for a break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Just returned from a great couple of days.

I cannot understand any of the negative comments on this site towards Nikoi.

The location is superb. Transfer to and from the Island was top class for the region.

The accomodation for this type of resort is of the highest quality.

The water sport equipment was more than satifactory and the supervision from the Island staff of our children using the equipment was very good,

The food was tyical for this type of holiday and of very good quality and as much as you wanted to eat.

The staff were fantastic. They are locally employed and trained by the managment. All part of being a member of the local community, It was obvious they were happy in their work. They were always available but never 'in your face'.

The total package is very expensive though. However there are cheaper places to go in the area if you want to pay less but I wouldn't. I even have to say it is good value. You just have to expect to pay.

If an eco break is what you atre after this location will be tough to beat.

Thanks for your kind review. It was great to read that you enjoyed your stay and nice to hear that you even felt Nikoi represented good value. It is not easy or cheap to operate on an island but that that remoteness and privacy is part of the charm. It is very reassuring to hear guests recognize this and see Nikoi as representing good value. Thanks again and we look forward to we hopefully welcoming you back.

“Ignore bad reviews this place is paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I just wanted to quickly say that I would highly highly recommend Nikoi for a honeymoon. It is the most idyllic island and a true chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Some people have whined about the lack of electrical appliances and obviously missed the fact this is what makes nikoi so special. The rooms are spacious and airy and over and luxurious whilst still maintaining an earthy/beachy feel. The driftwood and thatched roof design is stunning. The food was beyond our expectation and extremely tasty with something different every day. We stayed for 5 nights and are looking forward to returning there sometime in the future. I could not think of a better place that is so value for money for a romantic trip away. You can do as much or as little as you like and the only thing to have to think about getting to on time is breakfast lunch and dinner! A true paradise with lovely and helpful staff-i highly recommend it!!!!

Room Tip: Our room was #14 and was further away but it was nice to be away from where everyone hangs out. One...

“Almost Perfect!”

We visited Nikoi at the end of an 11 week trip - we wanted a place to rest up before our journey home and to reflect on the trip. This we found. The journey to Nikoi was easy and the passage through indonesian immigration remarkably easy, but do make sure you have $18 (Singapore) each. The taxi trip across Bintan worked well and then we arrived. The house - cant think of a better word, a one bedroomed beautiful elevated to the first floor by a wooden structure, overlooking the sea, with great ventilation and downstairs a fantastic patio with shaded day beds. It was fantastic waking up, sitting up in bed and looking through the mosquito net ( no mosquitos) through the vast open window onto the sea. The only cause for some concern was the neighbouring house had a crying baby in. Fortunately they left the following day and in truth we didnt hear the baby during the night, but we were tired. The island has two restaurants, one for adults and one for families which is great. The food was good, portions enough but not excessive. Wine was very expensive. The staff were all friendly and helpful and we could really find no fault.
The island prides itself on its child friendly approach, which is great, and there is plenty of space for all, we hardly saw other residents except at meal times but it would be good to ensure that noisy children do not disturb couples at night and in the evening.
Massage was excellent.
The add ons, transfers, ferries, day cost of food, wine and service charge add on to the reasonable room charge to make it expensive - but worth it.

We loved Nikoi, could we move it so it is not a 14 hour flight away from London????

Thank you very much for your very kind words. Great to hear you enjoyed your stay so much. We do try and ensure that couples and families are not in houses next to each other but it is not always logistically possible and some guests do not always tell us that they are traveling with infants. Unfortunately there is not much we can do about the price of wine this is due to the very high transport costs and high taxes. Our prices are very similar if not cheaper than what restaurants in Singapore charge and our cost base is higher. Thank you very much for visiting us all the way from London it is always a great thrill to hear of people traveling such a long way to visit us. We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back some day.

“Anniversary treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We stayed at Nikoi for 3 nights last August and absolutely fell in love with the island and the whole experience. We will definitely return. The beach houses really are beautifully presented (we are well travelled in Asia) and the staff made a real effort to involve our children who were age 4 and 7 at the time of our stay. Children really are made to feel important and welcome, and yet there is an adult ambience at the same time. I'm not sure whether you would have this perspective if you were there as a couple, but we certainly did. Landscaping, views etc are breathtaking. We have visited lots of islands over the years and this one is head and shoulders above most. Yes, the price is high, but for us it was value for money. Love the fact that all staff are local and are encouraged to spend time chatting to guests. This really makes a difference. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and can't wait to go back one day. Thanks everyone for a wonderful experience.
