“We'll be back”

We stayed for 3 nights in this lovely place with our 2 small children. We were a bit worried that we would be a bit isolated here but there was a surprising number of things to do within easy distance away, even with small children.
We had a ground floor room (probably the only safe place with little toddlers) which was very large, beautifully decorated and spottlessly clean. There was plenty of room for a bed for our little boy. The grounds were lovely with a gorgeous view over the rice paddies, coconut palms and mountains. Our children were very entertained at the hotel by the swimming pool, resident rabbits, a friendly cat and a gamelan to play. We had excellent wireless connection and there was a good selection of dvds and books to keep adults amused in the evenings.
The service was better than a 5 star hotel - we would go to the pool and pool towels would suddenly appear for us (no signing them in and out or calling for them to come like in other places), if we wanted to go somewhere the car was available with no cost (if close by).
We ate a lot from their kitchen - it was excellent quality food at reasonable prices - and so convenient to not have to wait in a restaraunt with the small kiddies but have the food bought to us.
We did a trip to the bird park - which was surprisingly fantastic, esp for kids. We went on the village walking tour which was interesting, very reasonably priced although a bit touristy. We also visited the sukawati art market which was the best handicraft shopping I'd done in Bali .
With older children, we would probably stay for longer because we could go on longer day trips and activities.
This is a very well run, beautiful place. A place where you feel like you are actually in Bali rather than in a generic south east asian resort. Can't wait to come back and will be recommending to our family and friends.

“Amazing resort in Ubud's surroundings”

I stayed in Mandala Desa for three nights. Everything was just perfect. They organized the transfer from the airport to hotel. Very warm welcoming. The staff was nice and smiling. The resort is located around 25 min drive from Ubud, and it's great, cause one can really enjoy the peace and quiet. Room (I had garden suite) had lots of space, what a huge bathroom and nice terrace. The only bad thing -- I stayed too short there. Will definitely come back.

“Great family reunion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We just returned from spending 2 weeks at Mandala Desa. We rented the whole place (and Kusuam Sari almost next door) to accomodate our family. We came to Bali to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday and sister's wedding -- Jacinta, Wayan and her entire staff were fantasitc taking care of our every need (and with this big of a group -- we had LOTS of needs)!!

One thing that we were not aware of that should be mentioned is the shopping in sukawati was fantastic -- better than sanur or ubud. The villa is close enought to those places as well that if you wanted to do more, you could!

Highlights were the buffet dinners and breakfasts, the balinese dancers and the warm hospitality!

Cannot recommend this villa (and kusuma sari next door) enought!

“Such a beautiful place with beautiful people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

My fiance and I spent 5 nights in Mandala Desa and loved every moment of it. The hospitality of Jacinta and her staff are impeccable and they did not hesitate to accommodate us in any way. We stayed in last villa of the property which, in our opinion, has the best views of the rice fields. The villas are private and the bed was comfortable and the entire place is filled with wildlife, which we loved. The food is quite good and we ate dinner a few times in our villa. the location is quite a while away from the centre of Ubud but they provide free shuttles to and from Ubud everyday which makes such a difference. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Get the last villa away from the pool, it is by far the best.

“Magical quiet resort located in the middle of the rice fields”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

I spend more than 1 week on Mandala Desa and I certainly want to come back. I couldn’t believe what I saw when I arrived at Mandala Desa. A magical quiet picturesque resort, located in the middle of the rice fields in a little rural village. I loved my view site room, my huge bed decorated with flowers. Every morning I received breakfast at my balcony and I could overlook the green rice fields and could see the volcanos. I experienced Mandala Desa as a place to settle down and to meet the real village life. No cars, no motorbikes, not crowded with tourists, and during the night you could hear the sound of singing frogs and grasshoppers. I was really happy with the facilities they offer. For example; They offer bikes for free, free transport to Ubud and airport transfer. I loved to lounge everyday in the beautiful garden alongside the swimming pool, but there are also active things to do. I liked; my walks around Mandala Desa and being invited by the neighbors to visit their Balinese houses; visiting a traditional medicine man (dukun), cycling through the rice fields and little villages and passing smiling faces; spending hours on the woodcraft market in Sukawati and eating on the night market without seeing any tourist… Of course Ubud and Sanur is also worth to visit and very close by (20 minutes). I was always happy to return afterwards to this quiet place. For me also important to mention are my experience with the owners and their staff. They gave me a very welcome feeling: friendly, helpful and social people. Finally, try the Bubur Ingin. A delicious desert made of black rice, coconut cream and brown sugar!
