“Quite pleasant”

At the time of our visit the hotel was undergoing renovations which in the short term caused some problems but overall the stay at the hotel was quite enjoyable. The room was a bit basic but adequate and the pristine swimming pool immediately outside the room was a bonus. The opening, about two metres long and 30 centimetres high at the top of the bathroom wall, was bit disconcerting as we envisaged it not only providing access for mosquitoes and other flying insects (even birds) not to mention some four-legged creatures. Breakfast was quite good and any shortcomings overall were more than offset by a very cheerful and pleasant staff. The hotel was very well located in central Ubud and provided all we needed for a short stay.

“Resort needs a little sprucing up”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I booked this resort on the strength of the recommendations here. Whilst the property and location has tremendous potential am afraid that its beginning to show its age. It was very warm the day we checked into the resort (27th Jan 2012) and to our dismay we found the air conditioners in the room to be rather ineffective to cool a villa as large as the ones the resort provides. Don't get me wrong the villas are huge and spacious and comfortable, however just the 1 aircon for the entire unit is plainly insufficient. While they were on maximum throttle, they were barely wheezing out cool (not cold) air. To the resorts benefit, they provided 2 portable a/c units our the 2 villas we booked. The villas were otherwise well appointed. One other suggestion is that they should have built in lights for the wardrobes, as it gets pretty dark at night and you can't see what you are packing. Its an annoyance. All self-styled 5 star resorts have this, even the ones on Lombok, so why not the Ubud village resort and spa.

The main pool looks lovely in the photos of the resort and while its a nice size, the surrounding deck area needs a good sprucing up. The wooden deck was rotten in some areas with dangerous rusty nails sticking out. This is a real problem considering people go around barefoot at the pool. Another thing was that the deck chair cushions were often splattered with bird droppings and crawling with ants. I have stayed in Ubud before and know that wildlife is an accepted part of the stay there but the sheer ant infestation near the main pool is unacceptable as they are all over the deck chairs and the staff don't seem to clean the droppings and clear the ants frequently enough. There also seems to be a lack of staff servicing the pool area as its so difficult to order a drink or a snack as there is no one attending the pool bar. I had just come from the Jimbaran Puri and there was no such problem there. However I would say the service here is very good once you are able to catch the attention of staff.

I would not recommend this resort until it has gone through a renovation and the facilities are improved. its a shame really as the resort has a wonderful location and the scenary is wonderful.

“Ubud 2012”

Can't say enough about the quality of our experience at this resort. It was excellent. The villas are a joy to stay in, the restaurant food is superb and the staff are nothing short of sainted! They bent over backwards to accommodate us....especially since my husband is handicapped and was unable to walk by himself throughout the resort. They met our needs to the extreme...by the end of our stay I was begging them to treat us as normal....just because I wanted to get out of our villa! I needed to spend some time away from paradise.

“Beautiful Location, Great staff”

We recently spent 5 nights at this beautiful hotel. We had our own very private pool villa. Lovely and clean, very comfortable and very private. The staff were polite and very helpful. We dined in the restaurant one night and had one of the best steaks we had ever eaten. Breakfast in the morning was huge (not buffet) your choice of a la carte and they also provided a unique free afternoon tea everyday. The location and views were spectacular and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to other couples looking at having some privacy with the convenience of a free shuttle into Ubud about 5 minutes away.

“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Before booking this hotel I read the various reviews posted here. If you're looking for a place in Bali, you know there are tons of great places. I decided to try the Ubud Resort. Well, I travel all over the world and when I got there, I was saying to myself "OMG-have I died and gone to heaven". I saw some negative reviews so was initially a bit skeptical but this place was unbelievable. I had a garden villa, my own pool, outdoor sunken tub, outdoor shower, indoor shower, a great bed, etc. The staff were all very friendly, the spa was wonderful and I was totally impressed. I could not really find any fault with this place so you won't go wrong if you're looking for a lovely place. There was a shuttle going into Ubud proper but I walked as well, and it only took about 15 minutes. There were also spas in town which I went to and although they were cheaper, they weren't as nice or private.

Room Tip: I think the villa is the way to go although I don't know what the standard rooms were like.
