“a place to recharge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The location is beautiful, the resort feels like a Balinese village, we stayed in January in a small villa on the hill, which had a beautiful view from the verandah and felt very private. A/C was efficient and quiet but I preferred sitting on the verandah. Bathroom has a Western-style bathtub with shower and with an adjacent open-air shower, which we liked a lot. The four-poster bed has its own lighting and a mosquito net all around, comfortable mattress, only the pillows were harder but I asked for a soft one at reception. Beware of hairdryer, some are not good quality and may short-circuit. Room had a safe, big enough for a small laptop. Spa has a lovely location but the rooms need upgrade and staff needs professional training - I would not bother with a massage or treatment. But the pool is lovely and open-air restaurant has an OK breakfast (nothing special, but you can order local dishes, which are more exciting). For the rest of the meals, I recommend taking the hotel shuttle to Ubud. The ride takes about 25 minutes (you cannot walk it), it goes 5 times a day for free (at 10am, 2pm, 4pm, 8pm and 10pm) and the pick-up is reliable. There is free wi-fi in the restaurant, it worked well. The hotel picked us up at the airport, there was a driver with our name waiting, but check if airport transfer includes also way back (not always). I organized our own tours, not using hotel services, and was very happy with it. You can get a cheap taxi in Ubud on the main street and organize tours and pick-ups with the driver. The room has a small coffee maker but I recommend that you bring your own coffee/tea if you are used to a strong/good stuff. The TV is older and small but who goes to Bali to watch TV anyhow. If you want a quiet place to recharge, you'll love it. If you'd like to be in the center of action, it is too far out.

Dear M S

Warmest greeting from Santi Mandala Villa.

Thank you for your nice feedback regarding your recent stay in our villa. It is a pleasure to know that overall you are satisfied with our facilities and service. Especially the privacy, beautiful view from the veranda, open-air shower and swimming pool.
Regarding the hairdryer and spa staff, I have taken a serious action about that. This morning during our daily meeting I have talked about it directly to housekeeping and spa head department to bring and solve this issue.

Once again thank you very much for your review about our villa, i will note your comment about our food varieties, we will always try to improve our service to make your next stay with us will be better than before.

Looking forward to welcoming you again in Santi Mandala Villa.

“Pretty, but....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Beautiful property, but in need of some general upkeep, like painting. Pretty accommodations, but personally do not like that the bathrooms are open-air. Also, bedroom needed more lighting and an accessible outlet for hairdryer. (Too hot to use hair dryer in outdoor bathroom). Restaurant satisfactory. Also, had cell phone stolen from safe in room, and management's response was that it must have been our fault! Would not stay here again.

“utopia on planet earth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

we have just spent the festive season at this resort, the staff were friendly but unfortunately they have some staff on the desk who do not speak any english at all, which makes life difficult when you need to organise a day trip, we had to ask a few times for the room to be cleaned, and some things on the menu were not available, for instance english breakfast tea which I ordered with my meals was off the menu for 11 days, I took my own tea bags. That's the negatives now the positives, the place itself is in a setting which to us was like Utopia, it's utterly beautifull, breathtaking to say the least, apart from the spa and pool there's not much to do other than walks which is hard to do in the rainy season but the peace and tranquility were what we were looking for and we were not disapointed. We slept like babies every night being lulled to sleep by the sounds of the rainforrest, river ,frogs, and waterfalls ect we were more than happy to sit with a beer on the balcony each night watching the rainforrest wild life. If you are looking for night life and wild times this place is not for you, it's strictly for those who want to get away from it all, sleep well and live the quiete life, the outdoor kitchen toilet and shower were a big plus for us,just beautifull, there was even a little natural waterfall in the toilet! with little fish swimming around you as you shower, the food at the resturant was very disapointing but the 4pm free shuttle to Ubud gets you there for evening meal with time left for shopping with a taxi back cost $8 australian, about 20 mins away.Do not go to Ubud without sampling the Babi Guling(suckling pig) it's to die for.

Room Tip: ask for a room down the hill the views are lovely

We visited the resort in 2009 during our Bali trip. Santi Mandala simply is a gem !
When we ordered our drinks and snacks by the pool, they came and bring it to us......such a wonderful crew.

We had free wifi at the restaurant, very nice to make Skype calls to home and show them the surroundings !

“Do a day trip instead very overpriced for what you get”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

The restaurant staff were great and food was good but the reception staff really need to work on making the customer feel welcome and listening to what the customer says! We booked a food and accommodation package which said on our paper work free shuttle when we went down to organize to catch it into town they said we could only go at there allocated times if we wanted to go out of those times it would cost us 80000rp which it did don't say that on any of our paper work ever other place we stayed had free transport then we explain this to them and they just were so rude about it we might as well stayed in the city centre of ubud! For the money we paid to stay here we expected more! We won't be staying here again
