“A truly Balinese experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Having stayed at many places in Bali, I would rate this one as one of the most authentically Balinese places I have been to (The Alam hotels being the other).

We rented a villa with a private pool and loved every moment of it. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom with open-air shower probably the largest I have ever seen and the garden and the bale beautifully done with views over the rice paddies. It all felt natural and the garden, though private enough, was open to three sides, which was wonderful - many other villas are surrounded by 4m walls and I always felt like being in a cage.

The gardens of the hotel and museum are huge and beautiful. We met Mr. Agung Rai for a small chat about art while strolling through the gardens and enjoyed some insights on the designs. It is such a magical place.
The Arma Museum showcases some amazing art from artists living on Bali, the coffee house overlooks rice paddies and offers light lunches and houses the store, which offers nice handicrafts. Also, the Arma Cafe serves great local food at decent prices.

Breakfast can be served in the villa when pre-ordered the day before or enjoyed pool-side buffet-style. We opted for villa-breakfast and the Nasi Goreng was one of the best I have had.

The place is probably not the most luxurious and does not offer top-notch service (you got to pick up your ice at the restaurant and room service does not exist), but we love the authenticity and the genuine friendliness of the staff. We will for sure be back!

Room Tip: Go for a villa...they are beautiful

“Natural, simple, yet luxurious villas near town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Arma resort and spa offered a great deal on a two bedroom villa close enough to town to walk and in a very simple setting. The property is vast and is nestled close to rice fields. We satyed in a compound that actually had two seperate one bedroom villas with a huge open air bathroom for each and a pool that stretched between the entrance to the villas. 2 raised pavillions or "bale" stood on each side of the pool and compound where we ate our breakfasts in the morning. Really a very beautiful setting.

Not great... Room was dated and felt a bit dirty. Disappointed as it was relatively expensive(for Bali). We got a superior room but was not nice!!!

“Amazing location, stunning”

We stayed at ARMA from 23/12 to 26/12, and thought it was amazing. The grounds of the hotel and museum are stunning, and quite large.

Our room was very large as well, and the staff were very helpful. The complimentary shuttle to ubud center was great too. Breakfast was fine.

We did have a few bug issues, however the room came with an insect deterrent. It's to be expected, but at times it was a bit full on.

We would stay here again if we ever go back to ubud for sure.

“Great Choice in Ubud”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

After reading the reviews I had mixed feelings about our choice of accommodation. Travelling with 3 adult children & 2 parents we all had quite different expectations, 2 children were first timers to Bali. Personally, I have been going there over a 20 year period, so have had a number of accommodation experiences. This one proved to be an extremely pleasant surprise. We arrived late at night, around midnight, the reception area composed of a desk on a deck...not a great start, however the first thing we were told was that we had been upgraded due to the contructions of new rooms to 2 Villas. After a stroll to the room through beautifully landscaped grounds lit by lanterns, past sculptures talking to us through a mouthful of water and the sounds of a waterfall gushing through and under the pathways were found ourselves at a traditional balinese double carved doorway and through into our villa with a small, invitingly cool plunge pool, a large room with a super king size mosquito curtained bed, a dressing room and vanity with an outdoor shower, undercover stone bath and another indoor shower cubicle. Marble tiled throughout with tasteful furnishings, great airconditioner and beautiful woven high ceilings. Not a damp smell to be had...something of a rarity in the rainy season in Bali...& infinitely better than our disappointing villa in Seminyak (Seminyuk!). The staff were very helpful, the 15 acre grounds are an landscaping dream with sculptures in every nook & cranny, the grounds also have working rice paddies, a wonderful museum, amazing architecture boasting all traditional Balinese temple like structures throughout the grounds. It certainly is a hidden paradise, close to the main shops & monkey forest . There is a shuttle service which was very convenient. The pool area is really lovely and they serve complimentary afternoon tea daily. The young local girls have their dance classes in a large undercover area every Sunday and I am led to believe that the regular dancers at the Arma are the best in Ubud, unfortunately I cannot confirm this as the Saturday night performance was cancelled due to inclement weather, however if the rest of what's on offer is anything to go by I would assume that my information is correct. I would definitely recommend this property to first time visitors to Ubud and experienced Bali travellers who love the "real Bali". I feel that the Villas are really worth the price, however we did get upgraded at no extra cost from a deluxe suite.

Room Tip: I would strongly recommend choosing a Villa as it is such a wonderful experience, beautifully decora...
