“We keep coming back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Have stayed here so many times over the last 20 years. From its earliest beginnings to its extension over the road at Honeymoon 2. What do we like best and keeps bringing us back? Breakfast: has got to be one of the best going around. In the old days it was delivered to your room, but the complex has got to big, so now you have breakfast at the front coffee bar area. A very big plus here, is a designated non smoking area upstairs where you do not have to inhale 2nd hand cancerous smoke from other inconsiderate diners. (I wish they would do the same at their Casa Luna restaurant.)
Our first choice of room was not available, so we chose Laxmi Deluxe B. What we didn’t at the time of booking, was our bed had only 1 way in; and our age, this can be a problem if one needs the toilet in the night; having to climb over the spouse. Then we were kept awake by the live re-enactment of that famous scene from the movie Harry meets Sally. (no male voice was heard) Fortunately it starts to rain and the sound of rain drops bouncing off the banana leaves outside our bedroom window muffles “Sallies” passionate enthusiasm for what is taking place in her bedroom and an opportunity for us to get some sleep. To quote Sally. “YES YES YES” In the morning we discovered a large puddle in our room, so we relocated across the road to Honeymoon 2 to an air-conditioned room overlooking the rice paddies and watching the farmer and his Japanese cow (hand held tractor)ploughing. We find the bedroom and bathrooms quite large. It’s a positive not having T V or phone in the room. We find the location excellent. Sure, something’s won’t work properly from time to time, but that’s Bali.

“Poor service, say yes, do no.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We stayed for three nights in November, and it was a poor experience. We had first floor room which was very spacious, but warm. The A/C was not working, which I told the reception. But nothing happened. Next day I told them again, and they said that somebody checked it in the morning. Still it was not working. The next I went the lady said she only worked in the afternoon, so had no idea about the complaint. In the meantime I took the van from the reception to cool off a bit. In three they managed to do nothing about the problem, and worst they didn't seem to care. I felt ignored. I left a note for the owner, and sent an email with feedback, but no reaction.

Sad, because the place for sure has potential the staff just needs a shakeup!

“Some good, some bad but all-in-all something a little different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

The Good
Breakfast choices
Amazing garden
Central location
No TV or phones

The Bad
No breakfast in your room without a surcharge
Construction noise
General cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired
The staff can be seriously cold at times. Once they know you they tend to mellow a bit ; but it leaves a bad taste at times.

The Different
Having breakfast with the yoga-divas complaining about their lives in Ubud. Hard not to choke on your coffee listening to these fairly loud whining gals!

“home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

I have been to Bali 3 times and always stay in this place..
In august this year I booked again after being absent from bali for 10 years.
It has grown from a small guest house to a larger one but still has the same charm.
Jalan Bisma is busier now, but the guest house is still peace full and quiet and very clean.
I am in hospitality and LOVE Casa Luna Restaurant. Its the mix of western and Balinese that janet has mastered and knows her customers well. The restaurant is always full with people.
It has the X factor and I love that you can go as a solo female traveller and feel at home and meet like minded people you can go out with or stay to your self by the beautiful pool.
These days you can get a perfect caffe Latte for breakfast and the new rooms across the Road were just being finished and have the most amazing rice paddy to look out onto.
Falling asleep at night to a chorus of frogs at dusk epitomizes Bali for me. It might pay to invest in this Paddy as to not loose this view which makes it special..
the Cookschools are a must and now you can also enjoy Byron Bay Yoga classes..
The only down side is that it is now so popular that they are often fully booked...brigitte / nz

Room Tip: I stayed in room 17 in a quiet corner, it has a massive bathroom and lovely veranda to sit on. Not...

“Location, location, location. Lovely spot for a relaxing holiday, where you can forget the real world and feel like a millionair”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

This was my first trip to Bali, so I had no idea what to expect.

We booked this the day before we flew out (the same time we bought our tickets!), so it was very last minute and a friend recommended we stay here.

From the minute we got here it was very much a sense of calm and relaxation. We were in an upstairs room first - room 23. The upstairs rooms get warm, but each room is air conditioned.

There are no kettles, and because they have very low wattage here there is no point bringing a hair drier as you'll short out the lighting.

The gardens are spectacular, and the pool is shared, but not often used.

We had lots of road noise, chickens, dogs and the always present fire crackers, but this didn't affect our sleeping at all.

We got moved to room 28 beside the cooking school, and I found that a bit harder to deal with than the road noise. Our room was right beside the school and the pool, and each morning the class would yak away and then trek over to the pool, to wash their hands. A bit noisy, but it isn't every day.

They have excellent laundry services but wash your smalls in your room as some of mine went missing each time they did a wash :-/

Jalan Bisma is a lovely road to be on. It has numerous restaurants/cages that serve local and western food. The guesthouse provided a lovely breakfast each day included in the price, but often we would amble out to Casa Luna to have cheese on toast!

Beware the honeymoon toast...they don't know how to do toast, and if you like cold, hard, bread, then you'll love their toast lol.

The wifi is free, but often dodgy, sometimes not strong enough to use. Most places have free wifi here as do the cafes etc.

Their are no toiletries supplied like in western hotels, but they do supply soap.

If you want a great massage for a very cheap price, Lily's across the road from honeymoon 1, is the best value and service I found.

They have an airport pickup/transfer service which is reasonable.

The taxi's are cheap and plentiful, and are a great option.

This review is the honeymoon 2 guesthouse, and we enjoyed staying here. Would we stay again? Yes.

If you want something quiet, in a good location, close to shopping without it being in your face, close to all services, easy to find, in a safe street, then you can't go past this place. You don't have to walk down a small dark lane way to get to your villa. This is right on the street and is well lit with reception open till lateish. Service may be a little slow, but there is usually someone always around.
