I had originally booked to stay at Hotel Tjampuhan Spa but when I got there my room was being renovated so the Management arranged for me to get an airconditioned room at Ananda cottages. This turned out to be very pleasant. I had a lovely airconditioned room which was good value for the price (about $AUD 85) with a long broad balcony overlooking a large garden, pool, creek, rice fields and then out towards a ravine with the mountains in the distance, which made for lovely surrounds in which to have a gin&tonic and watch the sunset. If you can get a room near the pool at the back in the second part of the hotel (a short walk down the road from the main entrance), ask for that, because it is beautifully quiet and in addition to the view there is a lovely, huge banyan tree next door to look at. When I stayed I noticed quite a few grey nomad and baby boomer travellers staying (as I overlooked the pool) and they all seemed very happy with the place. I'm a solo traveller in my late 30's and I enjoyed it. This place is booked for conferences a lot but it does not have a conference venue feel at all, which is a very good thing. My room had no TV and I was pleased with that - in such a pretty location, you should be relaxing on the verandah watching the view. I've had mostly very good breakfasts in Bali but the brekfasts here were probably the best - an open buffet with plenty of variety, high quality food with good turnover and a very pretty breakfast room surrounded by ponds, stone scupltures and fountains - just gorgeous. The staff were very friendly and helpful and looked after my bags all day after I checked out - nothing seemed too much bother. Plenty of taxis always available out front if you are too lazy to walk but it's so close to town you won't need them. Just wandering through the gardens here is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. There is plenrty of information at front desk about local activities if you have forgotten to book anything. I'll stay here again. Very good value for what is a very reasonable price.
