“I wouldn't stay anywhere else.”

I love Ananda and wouldn't stay anywhere else. Although its out of town I love being away from the hustle and bustle. It's so quiet and the views are breathtaking. I love the rooms and particularly the outdoor shower. With three pools to choose from you practically have a pool to yourself. The food is good for the price. We haven't had dinner here but breakfast and lunch is food. The staff are ever so friendly. To me it's an oasis!!!!

“Peaceful place.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Great property with 3 pools and surrounded with rice fields. Stayed 2 nights in room 19. Had a shower / bathroom outside which was lovely, although not ideal for whoever doesn't like wildlife... had loads of geckos & frogs around! The bed is big and very very comfortable & nice patio to relax and enjoy the views. We had people in the room above us and could hear them walking about in the morning, also lots of staff where gathered next to our room as if waiting for us to leave the room so that they get the cleaning done!
Breakfast was included in the rate. it was simple but good. The cottages are a good half an hour away from central Ubud. We had a car which was convenient since it's a hilly road. Having said that, there are still restaurant & shops withing walking distance.

“Surprise Stay was very good”

I had originally booked to stay at Hotel Tjampuhan Spa but when I got there my room was being renovated so the Management arranged for me to get an airconditioned room at Ananda cottages. This turned out to be very pleasant. I had a lovely airconditioned room which was good value for the price (about $AUD 85) with a long broad balcony overlooking a large garden, pool, creek, rice fields and then out towards a ravine with the mountains in the distance, which made for lovely surrounds in which to have a gin&tonic and watch the sunset. If you can get a room near the pool at the back in the second part of the hotel (a short walk down the road from the main entrance), ask for that, because it is beautifully quiet and in addition to the view there is a lovely, huge banyan tree next door to look at. When I stayed I noticed quite a few grey nomad and baby boomer travellers staying (as I overlooked the pool) and they all seemed very happy with the place. I'm a solo traveller in my late 30's and I enjoyed it. This place is booked for conferences a lot but it does not have a conference venue feel at all, which is a very good thing. My room had no TV and I was pleased with that - in such a pretty location, you should be relaxing on the verandah watching the view. I've had mostly very good breakfasts in Bali but the brekfasts here were probably the best - an open buffet with plenty of variety, high quality food with good turnover and a very pretty breakfast room surrounded by ponds, stone scupltures and fountains - just gorgeous. The staff were very friendly and helpful and looked after my bags all day after I checked out - nothing seemed too much bother. Plenty of taxis always available out front if you are too lazy to walk but it's so close to town you won't need them. Just wandering through the gardens here is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. There is plenrty of information at front desk about local activities if you have forgotten to book anything. I'll stay here again. Very good value for what is a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back in the second part of the complex overlooking the pool and rice fields, n...

“Nice place, bad food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

My husband and I stayed in Villa A for 9 days. We loved it! The room was large, clean and had a mosquito net, a/c and a lovely balcony over looking the rice paddies. If you have a hammock, bring a rope and put it on the balcony. We did and it was great!! We loved staying in our room. It was so peaceful....until kids were in the pool. Then it was noisy and a bit annoying. Also the cock-a-doodle-doo woke us up at 4am everyday and the frogs and crickets were noisy at night time. But it was ok. We slept ok. Not the best nights sleep here. I am still trying to catch up on my lack of sleep now that I'm home.

We paid $100 which included breakfast. We had a bit of a walk to get to the restaurant and the restaurant was awful. Terrible food, poor value and poor service from the grumpy older ladies that work there. The younger ones were more friendlier. We ate our meagre breakfast and had lunch and dinner elsewhere.

The location is not ideal We had a scooter so we just scooted into Ubud, but if you didn't have one, you'd have to walk a long way each day, up and down a steepish hill or pay for a driver - and the traffic in Ubud is SHOCKINGLY bad!!! We were happy we had a scooter to scoot around the cars and fumes.

We enjoyed our stay in our villa and we were happy we had a scooter. We probably wouldn't stay here again because we probably won't ever return to Bali. Bali is too commercial, full of tourists and the Balinese seem like servants in their own country. If you like yoga, this will be a lovely place to stay and hang out with other yoga bods.

“Peaceful place surrounded by rice fields”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

After couple of days at noisy Kuta beach, it was nice to get up to the lovely town of Ubud. Ananda Cottages was the exact place i was looking for, nice cottages in balinese style..I stayed in one of their bungalows with big verandah and open-air bathroom (I had some snails and frogs there!). Outside there was 3 swimmingpool around the area, with nice view over djungle and rice fields. Morning breakfast was pretty good, but i miss the cheeze though...There is a lot of nice art galleries and restaurangs at nearby. Especially I liked the italian cafe (forgot the name), they made very good pizza. Everyday (4days) i walked in to Ubud, which would take around 20-25 minutes, but that was ok...nice road (lots of art galleries)and I like to keep me fit:-) I would gladly stay here again.
