“Best sleep we ever had in bali”

My husband and I are recently married and we were on our honeymoon to Bali from 2-7 November. At first we stayed at Banyan Tree, Unggasan. Then we decided to experienced another part of Bali which is Ubud. Puri Wulandari is located very near to the Ubud Center, where we can find all the nice store and great cafe / restaurant. It took around 10 minutes to get there. When we first arrived, we were greeted by 3 very friendly staff. They have a little note stating that we are a honeymooners, and that make us feel great actually. We were transported into our villa using a boogie car, then the driver introduce himself as our private butler. He said that whatever we need, we can ask him and even if the hotel did not have it, he will still try to look it up for you (how caring). To enter the villa we must go through a very wonderful carved wooden door, it was very traditional and unique. The villa it self is breathtaking! We straightly looking into amazing view of the jungle followed by natural sound of the earth. There are also : private gazebo (perfect for you who like to read like us), private infinity pool (perfect for honeymooners who really want to enjoy the peacefulness together), and private outdoor dining room (we actually had in villa dining once and it was great). Entering the inside villa, we saw a very spacious and comfortable bedroom, we found out a box of chocolate heart shaped waiting for us (maybe that's why they have a honeymooners note) and also a greeting letter stating our name from the GM.Talking about the bath room.. it blew us away.. they have a sunken bath that had a very large window that show us the green jungle.. and it was private, so we feel very relax and comfort to enjoy our time there. The bathroom also had 2 bathroom sink for 'He' and 'She'. Yes, the bathroom is very very spacious also. The villa provide you with an extremely peaceful environment. We feel so relax that we actually woke up in the morning feeling so so fully charged. I said to my husband that I just had the best sleep since we arrived at bali, and he did too. On the last day.. I tried the spa, and as expected, it was a very nice touch. The spa center itself is very traditional and located on a spacious villa. Start from washing my leg with warm water, then covering my body with batic fabric then the masseuse start to massage my tired body. It felt so good until I fell asleep many times during the spa. 90 minutes after, it was one of the best massage I ever had. Last, we would like to express our compliment for the chef at Puri Wulandari, we really really enjoy all the food there, starting from tomato flavored margarine, the chicken grill with delicate mushroom in spinach cream sauce.. till' the cookies on top of tasty yogurt. Perfect touch. Looking forward to go back here one day for sure.

“Still wonderful ? Almost...”

My wife and I recently stayed at PW on the start of our Balinese holiday. It was our second visit, the first being about 5 years ago. We came back because we enjoyed our first time so much and wanted to repeat the special experience that we had then.

The things that we loved were generally still the same. The spectacular location, the beautiful private villas that cling to the cliff side looking over the river gorge. One enters the villas through a carved wooden door into a beautiful covered open air living area that leads enticingly onto gazebo and the infinity plunge pool that seems to float over the gorge.

Another set of doors lead into the bedroom, dressing room and bathroom areas, all beautifully appointed with indoor and outdoor showers, sunken bath. The bedroom has a spectacular tented 4 poster bed and sliding glass and louvered doors onto the terrace and pool areas.

However.....we left there feeling slightly sad and disappointed. It seemed that the whole place had become somewhat jaded. In the most part the staff are wonderful with a few exceptions who one felt needed a bit of a motivational boost. The bed was hard, the bathrobes were getting very tatty and needed replacing. We had to move villas because the air-conditioning didn't work - this was done efficiently and with suitable apology and the offer of a complimentary spa treatment, however it seemed that they had known that there was a problem in the first place. The outdoor cushions for the loungers and gazebo desperately needed changing with some very suspect stains on them !

Is PW still 5 star ? Not quite ! Bali has not faired well in tourism terms over the last few years and there is a great deal of competition. It would be very easy to let this wonderful place slip into complacent decay without some careful management and attention to detail. It won't take much and could so easily be restored to its former glory.

Just on another note, the Balinese authorities seem to want to make it increasingly difficult for tourists. Not only did they increase tax on alcohol by 500%, the queues at immigration seem to get longer and longer ! We used a VIP immigration and visa service. There are several available online and they charge about $35-$45 per person. We were whisked through in about ten minutes and straight to our waiting luggage. The remainder of our fellow passengers were left sweating and getting more and more agitated in the two queues - the first for your visa and the second for immigration, oh and a possible third for customs if you're shifty looking ! We were out of the airport and in our air conditioned transport within 20 minutes. Worth every cent !!

Room Tip: 112 is very private and close to the restaurant. Be aware that the lower down the gorge your villa i...

“beautiful hotel, great service”

We treated ourselves to a stay here on the recommendation of a friend and we were not dissapointed. Our villa was set up on the side of the gorge overlooking the river and the view was spectacular. The room itself was very spacious and nicely decorated and it was great to have out own infinity pool! The bathroom was also lovely, particularly the sunken bath with a large window out over the river.

Our stay was very private, you barely notice that anyone else is there, and when you need something the staff are both efficient and friendly.

Its a bit different to anything else I have been to and all the better for it. Thoroughly recommended!

Puri Wulandari is an extraordinary resort set within in hills of Ubud. Located about 3kms away from Ubud town center, you get to experience the tranquility of the forest and mother nature. We had a room half way down the hill side and we were fortunate enough to have traveled in the low season so the resort was a bit of a ghost town which we didn't mind at all. In spite of that, if you need to get away and rejuvenate, this is the place for you. The villa we had was more than generous, the bedroom, outdoor living, & bathroom (includes outdoor shower and indoor bath tub overlooking the forest) are well separated. You can spend the whole day in the villa without leaving, the food was impeccable. We chose this resort based on the other reviews in Tripadvisor and it truly delivered.
