“Budget luxury”

A group of 11 colleagues booked four separate villas. We would have liked to have been placed nearby each other but we were split up and ended up miles from each other.

The good Aussie dollar meant we paid a little less than $100/night for each double room. Those who shared a room paid $50/night for a pretty high level of comfort. Extremely good value.

The best thing was the maid who did our laundry daily and ran small errands for us, like going to the shops to buy tonic for our duty free gin. Our laundry was washed and folded every morning from the previous day. Laundry is a hassle when travelling so this made a big difference. The hotel staff generally were pretty good, but not quite the level of cheery good service you usually get with Bali accommodation. It is a large hotel with many villas in one location and I think you lose a bit of intimacy with that kind of arrangement. Apart from the maid, we didn't actually get to know the staff over the week.

We also liked our private pool and the fact that you could fall into it at any time without having to battle the crowds. The walls are high and there is good privacy except for the poolman who wanders in unannounced each morning. I wouldn't mind a knock or a yell before they come in. The maid was less conspicuous.

My partner and I stayed in the master room of a 3-bedroom villa. It had a lovely four-poster bed, nice cool floor tiles, a tiny telly which we hardly watched and a sliding door onto the pool area. The ensuite was HUGE with a bath we didn't use, a large indoor shower and a gorgeous little outdoor shower that was my favourite. The aircon did not work well but they fixed it during our stay with 3 blokes standing around in our room Bali-style for a couple of hours. Not great. After that it worked perfectly.

The large water dispenser is a good touch. You can fill your bottles from it for day time drinks.

It's great to get a massage next to your own private pool and we paid about 100K for an hour. They were good without being amazing.

Location was ideal for us as our conference was at the nearby Hyatt. Hardy's supermarket is a short walk away. It is located well away from the main strip and, apart from some nearby revelry one night, it wsa very quiet and peaceful. Some great restaurants nearby and we didn't end up trying all the places we wanted to. Try Char Ming on the main strip nearby. The frogs legs and pannacotta were memorable and prices reasonable.

To be picky and point out some weaknesses:
A few times during our stay the power went out, maybe no-one's fault, but we didn't have lighting for these times.
The TV was not the large screen described, but good enough.
The fruit basket on arrival looked drab, and we didn't eat it.
The welcoming drinks were powdered orange juice. In Bali?!
The promised wifi in the room did not work.
It's not brand new and a few things are starting to look a bit worn, but for the money, it was excellent value. Other villas had nice artwork, ours was a bit plain.

I will go back there provided the price stays the same.

Super villas about 10 mins walk from beach. Very well equipped with everything needed for a relaxing stay including juicer and water dispenser. You have your own private pool in your own walled garden complete with daily maid service. Our maid Comagn ? was a gem she came in the morning and would rustle up breakfast for us, do the cleaning then wash & iron any clothes that needed doing, she would get shopping in if you needed her to, then prepare lunch before she went for her lunch. She introduced us to fruit smoothies. Sanur has plenty of very inexpensive places to eat with lots of variety. Emerald villas will provide a collection & delivery service from the airport & our driver Nanga was very steady and careful. We hired him for a days sightseeing over the island which was good value for money. All the staff at the villas were very helpful & friendly and helped make it a super super holiday, no hesitation in recommending it for a holiday.

“Excellent stay”

Stayed in July 2011, with four young kids (3,5,6 and 8) This was the second time we stayed although last time they moved us down to jade villas which is a block down but exactly the same if not better. We rented a three bedroom villa. Very nice. Maid for washing and cleaning was great. Kids loved Jack the pool guy. Security was good and front gate guys very friendly. Room service for breakfast was good value. Small shop/toko (toko bagus) about 2 min walk for basic supplies such as bread, milk, snacks and bintang! If you are after more groceries then Hardys is about a 10 min walk or 1 min taxi ride. The villa had full cooking facilities which was good but we found that the villas were very close to a lot of good restaurants like fortune cookie (short taxi), Charming, Cafe Japun, Little India etc (check trip advisor reviews for restaurant). Villas have drivers available for day trips which may suit but plenty of transport available out on the street. If you need to go to Kuta, waterbom etc then just grab a bluebird taxi from the main street (which is 100m from the front gate). Sanur beach was 5 to 10 min walk straight down the street, past toko bagus. Apart from the beach which is tame because of the reef, it's relaxed, and has some nice little restaurants which are nice for lunch or coffee. That's about it for my review. I would recommend emerald villas to my friends (and have done so), if you are looking for a luxurious villa. Sorry one more thing, you get a private pool in your villa which was great for kids.

Room Tip: Rooms are very nice, air conditioned and cleaned every day by the maid.

“Definately return on next trip to Bali”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

If you want complete relaxation in your own villa, along with privacy and out of the hustle and bustle of Kuta, then look no further than Emerald Villa's, Sanur. You are within walking distance of the crowd free beach and many great restaurants. There of plenty of shops as well. You are only a 20-30 minute drive back into the chaos and crowds. These villas come with your own private pool and full facilities and the largest bathrooms. There is even a maid for each villa, she is happy to do your washing and keep the place clean. Definately worth a look! We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa. The only negative would be that none of the bedrooms had single beds, for those with children preferring there own beds!

Room Tip: I think all rooms would be fine as they are completely private.

“OUTSTANDING”

My husband and I and my two boys stayed at this resort for 10 days. We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa with its own private pool. It was wonderful. Two luxurious baths in the bathrooms and loved the courtyard showers. Our maid was Yogi and she was excellent. She spoke good english and was extremely helpful with any questions. With children it was lovely not to have to do the laundry!!
The reception staff were very helpful could not fault them. We had some (private) issues while we were there and they made many phone calls trying to help us out.
Security guard (good english not sure of his name) was extremely friendly and made phone calls for us when our tour guide (not booked thru Emerald) was late.
Loved Bistro 95 restaurant and the pineapple pancakes!!

Only downside hated seeing the poor monkeys - tacky not nice.
