A group of 11 colleagues booked four separate villas. We would have liked to have been placed nearby each other but we were split up and ended up miles from each other.
The good Aussie dollar meant we paid a little less than $100/night for each double room. Those who shared a room paid $50/night for a pretty high level of comfort. Extremely good value.
The best thing was the maid who did our laundry daily and ran small errands for us, like going to the shops to buy tonic for our duty free gin. Our laundry was washed and folded every morning from the previous day. Laundry is a hassle when travelling so this made a big difference. The hotel staff generally were pretty good, but not quite the level of cheery good service you usually get with Bali accommodation. It is a large hotel with many villas in one location and I think you lose a bit of intimacy with that kind of arrangement. Apart from the maid, we didn't actually get to know the staff over the week.
We also liked our private pool and the fact that you could fall into it at any time without having to battle the crowds. The walls are high and there is good privacy except for the poolman who wanders in unannounced each morning. I wouldn't mind a knock or a yell before they come in. The maid was less conspicuous.
My partner and I stayed in the master room of a 3-bedroom villa. It had a lovely four-poster bed, nice cool floor tiles, a tiny telly which we hardly watched and a sliding door onto the pool area. The ensuite was HUGE with a bath we didn't use, a large indoor shower and a gorgeous little outdoor shower that was my favourite. The aircon did not work well but they fixed it during our stay with 3 blokes standing around in our room Bali-style for a couple of hours. Not great. After that it worked perfectly.
The large water dispenser is a good touch. You can fill your bottles from it for day time drinks.
It's great to get a massage next to your own private pool and we paid about 100K for an hour. They were good without being amazing.
Location was ideal for us as our conference was at the nearby Hyatt. Hardy's supermarket is a short walk away. It is located well away from the main strip and, apart from some nearby revelry one night, it wsa very quiet and peaceful. Some great restaurants nearby and we didn't end up trying all the places we wanted to. Try Char Ming on the main strip nearby. The frogs legs and pannacotta were memorable and prices reasonable.
To be picky and point out some weaknesses:
A few times during our stay the power went out, maybe no-one's fault, but we didn't have lighting for these times.
The TV was not the large screen described, but good enough.
The fruit basket on arrival looked drab, and we didn't eat it.
The welcoming drinks were powdered orange juice. In Bali?!
The promised wifi in the room did not work.
It's not brand new and a few things are starting to look a bit worn, but for the money, it was excellent value. Other villas had nice artwork, ours was a bit plain.
I will go back there provided the price stays the same.
