“Pleasure to stay at Puri Sindhu Mertha Suites”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The rooms were large even by Aussie standards - two double rooms each with ensuite on either side of a living area. One room even had an open air shower which we chose to use as it was more comfortable and the water pressure and quality for baths not good. Yes there was a smell of dampness when you first entered the suite but this soon disappeared when doors opened and really it is to be expected on a tropical island. Good air con, flat screen tv both rooms. Kitchen not really equipped for eating in but staff are only too willing to provide you extra cups, sharp knife for cutting fruit etc. Clean bed linen and clean rooms. Stepped out of our room into the court yard swimming pool - lovely and well maintained. Breakfast options limited but can recommend the banana pancake and nasi/mei goreng for breakfast. Can't say enough good things about the staff - very helpful and any problems fixed almost instantly. The suites are a little oasis and their Tour driver Made is highly recommended too!

Room Tip: Make sure which site you want to stay at the Puri hotel or the smaller Suites/Guest House

“It has been beautiful, needs an upgrade,or time to move on”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

My wife and I have been to the Mercure at Sanur beach approximately a dozen times in the last 18 years. It has been sensational, almost a home away from home, and I think the great thing about the Mercure is its beautiful staff,....from Sumerta at Guest relations (he is an absolute gentleman and star) to the marvelous staff at the restaurant and Breeze Bar,we were really sad that Suwiti was moved from this area as she was a decided asset with her great smile and sense of urgency on request, the gardens and surrounds are impecable,..................however it seems that it is time to move on,as unfortunately the hotel is becoming a little tired and has been for a few years now,....we are really sad,but the accomodation needs upgrading. We will be in Sanur this March, and will call in to say hello to the beautiful staff.Greg & Linda Brown.

“I guess you get what you pay for?!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

we stayed here on the last leg of our journey to Bali for honeymoon. First things first i guess., this is not a good choice of honeymoon hotel. i made a bit of a mistake on this one considering the occasion, but in fairness after staying in fairly expensive hotels for the rest of the trip i was looking for somewhere a little cheaper, i probably should have just spend the extra few quid on somewhere nicer and i got what i paid for!
The pros:
The hotel staff were very nice to us,not outstanding service but adequate.
The hotel is right on the beach which was nice and quiet and we were able to have a lovely relaxing time there ( the beach itself is fine but bali to me is not a beach destination. if u are looking for fab beaches there are certainly better countries than bali for that!)
the pools- were clean and attended to when we where there.

the cons:
well i guess the hotel is pretty dated and when it is beside some much prettier and more well maintained hotel it really shows!
i really think the choice of room in this resort can dictate how good your stay may be. we had one of the better rooms and it was fine, dated, work needed to be done and would have been like heaven when i was a backpacker back in the day but for what i would want now, not really good enough even at a cheap price.
i would not stay in a place so in need of a paint job back home so kinds hard to justify staying in it even if it is in bali now.
but i guess the room did the job and that was it. no bugs or insects thank god but i can imagine maybe the guests in cheaper rooms may have genuine cause to give out.

i dont really like giving bad reviews to places because i think it will probably suit somebody and for the price i knew it wouldnt be amazing so what i will say about it is this.
for a back packer - perfect.
for honeymoon- no
for family holiday- definietly doable- just pick one of the more expensive rooms and you will be ok, but expect it is dated!

notes: i saw reviews on here that said showers were cold, i found that actually it takes a good six or so minutes for the shower to actually heat up so give it time- not great for the enviroment and wasting of water etc but hot shower does seem to be available !

the hotel could use the slow period to start updating some of the rooms, a paint job and some new furnishings would make all the difference to this hotel i think!

,enjoyed staying to an extent but probably wouldn't return! sorry!

Room Tip: pick one of the more expensive rooms

“Despise this place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I have never stayed at a more poorly run and organized hotel where the staff not only have not a clue, but no matter how many times you try to get problems fixed they can not understand or rectify the problems in anyway. Nothing has gone right since we got here. The first room was a dirty dingy rat hole that was supposed to be "refurbished"! It stank like pee in the bathroom, my family who we were traveling with, even though we confirmed bedding type were still given the wrong room. Staff have no grasp of English and when confronted with problems pass it off or blame it on other staff members. Toilet paper and toiletries we are still waiting to be restocked. Asked for ice. A hour later rang to see where it was and they told us to wait another 15 min until it has stopped ranging because they have no umbrellas. Oragnised a sterilizer because we are traveling witness a infant to be dropped off at hotel the day of arrival. When we got here, no sterilizer, they told me that there was defiantly niching dropped off for us so we had to ring the company to see where it was. It was behind the counter but they could not even bothered to look. Lazy, lazy, poorly trained staff! I am gobsmacked that accor and mercure would let a hotel like this drag down their standards so much! This place is a hole! Houskeeping can't do their job, neither can the reception staff and good luck trying to get through to room service. We tried for half a hour and ended up walking to the reception and getting them to ring because nobody answers the phone! They didn't even take the call when the manager from reception tried to get through! Linen is old and stained. The bathrooms are moldy and smelly. No do not desturb signs. Lots of bottles left in garden for days. Our wooden slat curtain fell off the bathroom window and it was held in place by a bread bag tie! Paint peeling off walls. Bad finishing to rooms. Smelly. Incompetant staff. If you want a relaxing holiday don't come here, you will spend most of your time trying to get the useless staff to try and rectify all the problems you will encounter because of there bad management and poorly trained staff. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more and try the puri santrien or the hyatt and actually enjoy your holiday instead of stressing and pulling your hair put everyday because of the sheer stupidity of the staff in this hotel. It has no redeeming qualities and I will never, ever reccomed it to anyone! Stay clear or be sorry!

Room Tip: Some refurbished rooms are older than others with very small bathrooms. Ask to look at the room befo...
