“Well......”

Here is the good bad and ugly.

Airport Arrival-used the VIP airport services for the visa, best $25 spent, also arranged a driver through the hotel. Loved the cool towel and bottle of water.
Hotel Arrival- greeted with a smile by several porters, welcomed at the front desk with a ginger-ade and cool towel. I was politely informed that the upgrade I requested was available as well as the club access, for a fee of course. I politely smiled back, whipped out my Hilton Honors gold card and said sure, but I'm gold I am not going to pay. Well it's only free for Diamonds, but I will check with my manager. I asked if I could have club access with no room upgrade. Fine, he comes back, ok you can have club access but no room upgrade, fine. Then proceeds to hand me a letter from the GM that welcomes me to Bali and lets me know that my room has been upgrade and I have club access. I had the letter back, with a smile. Ok ok, you can have an upgraded room and club access.
Room- was upgraded to a lagoon room, so direct access to the pool. It was nice. I actually used this feature. Room was spacious. Fresh fruit was provided daily.
Food- has breakfast at Spice and Suku, Spice is quiet with limited buffet, Suku has much more variety. I will say this, if you are watching your waistline, stick to Spice, better portion control.
Pool-great, loved the little amenity kits, with the cool towels, water and water spritz.
Grounds-kept very clean, minimal bugs, in fact they have electronic bug zappers in the closet if you need it.

Overall the hotel was nice, the people for the most part were very friendly. I personally just encountered enough problems, that I probably would not choose to stay here again. 1st- due a power surge, my laptop was fried. My fault for not having a surge protector, better believe lesson learned. 2nd- due to illness I deceided to leave a day early, I had prepaid my reservation, so I knew I would be losing a night. I got a call at 11.30 pm from the front desk, to tell me that I would not be receiving a refund of my unpaid night. Not sure why they felt it was necessary to call me so late, when a note under the door would have been more appropriate. 3rd- when I was checking out I had a Hilton Gift card, that I wanted to apply to my balance. They guy at the front desk swiped it and said, sorry denied. I explained it was a gift card, not a credit card, oh let me talk to my manager. Well here is the problem, you can't use the gift card since it will not cover your full bill. Nevermind the fact I had 2 gift cards. Management needs to work on the front desk employees skills.

Also I did not use the spa, because there were 2 other options for half the price, one to the left, one to the right, Jali Menari and Rumah. Can't go wrong with either.

Dear Windycityf,

Thank you for taking the time to write and share a review of your recent experience at Conrad Bali.

We are delighted to learn that you enjoyed the grounds, pool and pool services, and your Lagoon Room. The Lagoon Room provides extra privacy and more ease of accessibility to the pool facilities, making it that much easier to have all your items handy and be able to relax by the pool.

The circumstances you have outlined regarding your experience with the front desk is disappointing to learn about, and we would like to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this caused you. We are very disheartened to learn that you had a less than perfect experience at Conrad Bali, as this is not indicative of our full service potential to our valued guests.

We hope that you were still able to have an enjoyable trip, and on your next visit to Bali we will see you back at Conrad Bali again.

Warm regards,

The Team at Conrad Bali

“So so on a number of points”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

The Conrad Bali is a lovely venue though wear hiking shoes to get to your room it can be a several block walk.

The staff are quite mediocre especially considering the quality of the staff at other 5 star hotels in Indonesia. Underqualified, unable to speak English they left me wanting for internet connection, linens and a number of other fundamentals.

The food in the buffet was substandard. I's say a two on a scale of five. And dont come late to breakfast there may not be any left.

It was so sweet when I returned to my Jakarta hotel base, the Mandarin Oriental, when the they opened the door for me and said 'welcome home bupak' I realy felt like I was.

I stayed at The Conrad last June with a group of travel agents to check out some of the hotels and activities in Bali and each and every one of us was completely amazed by the outstanding property. The staff were helpful and incredibly pleasant at each and every request made (including requesting buckets of ice to put in the sink to cool our carton of bintang!) and we never once felt like we were anything but welcome.

The rooms were immaculate from the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out of our Conrad Suites. Cleanliness is such an important part of my hotel experience that I really couldn't believe how perfect everything was!

The suites are huge with everything you could dream of needing and the dressing area / bathroom made me feel like a superstar every time I was getting ready to go out.

Both of the breakfast's that I had were fantastic, the only downside was that the coffee was incredibly average but everything else made up for it.

If you are looking at getting married in Bali than the Infinity chapel is modern, chic & has breathtaking views.

The location was probably a bit out of the way for a group of 12 people aged in their 20's wanting to hit up Kuta for partying, but if you're looking at doing a party trip then put yourself up here for 2 nights at the end to recuperate!

I stayed there over 6 months ago and can not stop thinking about The Conrad and recommending it to clients, friends and family that deserve a second to none holiday experience.

Room Tip: Go for one of the suites - they really are something else. Also, ask your travel agent to request a...

“Top notch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Really, really impressed with this hotel, the facilities and even more important, the service and the friendliness of the staff. We were for 10 days so also had a chance to "get to know" some of the staff members, which was nice.

Always attentive, their friendliness appearing genuine as opposed to professional (not meaning to say in any way they were not professional, but I hope you know what I mean).

We were in a special part of the building (the term escapes me), which had its own breakfast area (ground level and terrace), as well as the executive lounge (upstairs w/balconies). The room/suite also came with additional services. I particularly liked what we soon referred to as the "magic basket": All clothes that you put in there appeared clean and nicely folded on the bed a few hours later ;-)

Some things can be a bit pricey. But you pay for quality. And it's never fair to compare a 5* resort with the prices in the local snack hut (although I sometimes prefer the latter to eat with the locals when I travel).

All well organised. As a special example, I had suffered a form of insect bite or something during a stop-over in Seoul. Nothing really serious but part of my arm was very swollen and with signs of infection around the bite. I had sent an email to the hotel just to ask whether there would be a doctor available for an examination should it worsen. Upon arrival (having been picked-up from the airport in a very efficient and friendly manner), I was taken straight to a doctor who had been alerted and was called in to match my time of arrival. Impressive.

As noted, the hotel and everything about it is top notch. The only bad thing about the location is that in order to explore other the parts of the island, you have to drive through Kuta and with the level of traffic, that might take a while... We skipped a couple of planned excursions/trips for that reason because we got tired of the traffic. In other place we've spent the day on the beach and then made those late afternoon / evening trips, but not so much an option here.

People on Bali lovely all around.
There are plans to build a new road (partly over water) to link this part of the island to the airport area without having to go through Kuta. If that happens, the traffic issues will be removed. I wouldn't make that a precondition to return to the Conrad though!

i travel quite a lot, but this hotel is one of the best ever i stayed in.
we stayed for a new year and everything was very good: the rooms, the design, the food, the territory, the service. we drove bicycles along the beach and looked at other hotels, and they all looked old and shabby compared to Conrad.
a couple of days during tides the water went away, so we drove bicycles about 15 minutes along the beach and there was amazing beach with no hotels or people.
generally, hotel leaves very good impression. would definitely return.
