We've stayed at HPTL (as it is called) dozens of times during the last 15 years, We know most staff members by name (and there are a lot of them) and have seen most rooms from the inside, so we know what we are talking about.
This hotel used to home for us for a long time, but recently things have changed.
Basicly it is an nice small, bit old fashioned hotel at a nice location, with nice people who really want you to have a good time. But things have changed lately. Apart from the roomrates (which was raised from 150 to 250 or even 300 in 18 months without significant improvements to the rooms or anything, ) there is this problem with the staffmembers. Most new staffmembers at the desk are really incapable ,and not fit for the job. They really ruin the reputation of this hotel. How about this : a(mini)busload of french tourist just arrived from the airport , internet reservations in their hand, find that all their rooms were occupied , and nothing could be done about it. Personally we have seen several reservations evaporating before a blunt looking staffmember. Whether personal gain or stupidity is at the base of this is hard to find out. And as you can see in other revieuws there is the issue of safety. When you know that your roomkey fits to some other roomlock as well, and that the cardboard safedepositboxsystem is no system at all, there still should not be a big problem. Because safety in Indonesia is based on trust an not on locks , So staffmembers you must be able to rely on.
And at HPTL , that sometimes a problem.
