“Peaceful location, excellent service, but a bit overpriced”

The lodge is in a very peaceful location, surrounded by vast grounds. The rooms are quite basic, but comfortable and large. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious and included one of the best pots of coffee we had while in Bali. One night we went for the set dinner menu and were very pleasantly surprised with a simple, but absolutely delicious home-cooked meal that was excellent value for money. There is a lovely cozy living room area that is great for reading / watching TV. The service impressed us the most of all. All the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome to the lodge.

On the down side, the lodge really is miles from anything. This is ok for a couple of nights, but any more than that it may be a strain. Considering the inconvenient location, we felt it would have been fair if the lodge provided a free shuttle service into Jimbaran town instead of charging for the trip each time. Taking into account the location and basic rooms, it did feel overpriced. Possibly paying low season prices (we went in high season) would feel better value.

“Peaceful place away from the noise of Kuta but close enough to get there”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We stayed at this lovely little hotel as we journeyed around Indonesia. We used it as our base as we needed to go in and out of Denpasar to get to the remote islands. The rooms are a nice size with great AC and VERY quiet. Maybe 15 minutes from the airport in a very quiet part of town. The owners and staff were exceptionally helpful. We left our luggage with them and each time we returned (4xs) it was already in our room when we got there.

They have a big pool which over looks the valley and bay. Nice sitting areas where many bird watchers would greet the morning while having their coffee/tea and watch the local birds. They have excellent meals with both a set an ala carte menu. Everything we ate was wonderful. They have a small in house bar with wines, beer and soft drinks.

The staff could not be more helpful as were the owners Dr. Alan and Meryl Wilson (both are ex pats from Africa). They are committed environmentalist and are very active in animal preservation issues. They will make you feel most welcome.

They have 5 different lodges throughout Indonesia that are all Ecolodges. For some the only downside might be if you are looking for a hotel close to the clubs and nightlights. You will have to take a taxi but we preferred the peace and quiet with warm Balinese hospitality!

Room Tip: they have 10 rooms and they are all fine!

“Quiet Oasis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

A lovely place to stay. The staff and the owners Meryll and Alan Wilson could not have made us any more welcome. The food was excellent and the atmosphere peaceful, after the more popular tourist centres. Jimbaran beach also well worth a visit, beautiful.

Thank you so much to the Wilsons. Having visited the other eco lodges that they are involved in I can say that they are all wonderful and welcoming.

“bliss!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

Udayana was like a little oasis at the end of our trip across Java and Bali. Set in beautiful gardens with a beautiful pool hiding beyond the trees, this is a quiet retreat perfect for a relaxing break. Staff are very helpful, and if you want to plan adventures they’ve got some great advice. It’s only 30 mins walk to the beach, through the gardens and along a few streets, with plenty to look at along the way. Alternatively you can organise your own transport (ojek / taxi / hire car). As a one-off, we hired a car and driver for the day through the lodge. We thought the cost was worth it for the day, as our driver acted like a guide and recommended places we wouldn’t otherwise have discovered, which was great. (Try the coffee luwak and meet the civet at the orchid gardens!)

The room was clean and cool, and the nicest we’d stayed in during our whole trip. (The outdoor shower with our room was a novelty to us English types! Don’t let this put you off – they are in no way overlooked and it’s nice to feel the sun on your…back)

The bar and dining area upstairs is open along one side, making you feel like you are sitting in the canopy of the surrounding trees – lovely! There was a tasty range of food, taking into account my allergy to seafood (unfortunate in Bali), and breakfasts were good too. You need to let the staff know each morning if you plan to be around for lunch and / or dinner.

The lounge area was equally charming, with endless books to browse and a TV with lots of channels and DVDs should you wish. There’s internet access too. I loved curling up amongst the cushions listening to the frogs chirping outside, and watching the cicaks come and go. As I overheard another excited guest saying “this is like someone’s home” (only it's even nicer!)

Room Tip: 10 rooms, all overlooking the beautiful gardens & all downstairs.

“on the top”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

it was the best hotel during one month in Bali between 16 hotels tested in this country
it looks like a green island in the town so you need a car or a scooter to go in the center or to the beach
this is the reason why you can feel the nature especially during the night with a lot of birds and frogs .From this hotel you can have a walk in their forest park, area protected..
ALL IS CLEAN people are so much kind with you even the owners want to talk with you..
nice swiming pool in the beautiful garden
Ideal when you want to have a break during your holidays and regenerate you
thanks
