We have been to Bali 8 times (from the ex Ritz Carlton via Conrad/Intercontinental to the best villa 200 at Oberoi Seminyak plus Oberoi Lombok). But this time we have chosen Pat Mase villas for our long term stay (4 weeks) in Bali to enjoy, to get away from the winter and also to work. We must say that this combination works very well with this hotel managed Villa Complex. All staff are helping to make this a part time home and they are succeeding very well. Compared to the Oberoi Villas (not the Lanais) we did not miss much (except the now far away KuDeTa, but exchanged more quietness). You have a lot more space in Pat Mase Villas and the gardens are fantastic. The management will do all it can to make things happen and is caring about the guests, which does make a huge difference these days. This is the Bali Ubud lush experience minus the for us overwhelming bugs of villas outside Ubud.
The amenities are pretty much the same like in much more expensive Villas in Bali and one should honestly think about shelling out the extra difference. As we have still some days to go for finishing our winter escape we will follow up with the final verdict in a couple of days....

This hotel was beautiful and had a nice serenity. It was a good spot if you dont want to be in the hustle and bustle of Kuta and Seminyak etc. It is about a $5 cab ride (which is about 15mins without traffic) to get into Kuta, so its not too far at all. There are some beautiful places to eat around here including PEPEnERO Italian Cucina, Grocer and Grind and Chocolate Cafe. The only issues we had here was that the TV's didnt work all the time and the phones were down for 80% of the time we were there - which wasnt a huge deal when it comes down to it. The staff were absolutely beautiful - Dewi & Karmini were just delightful and nothing was an issue with any of the staff. Handy that they have free shuttles every couple of hours into Kuta. You can get breakfast delivered and served in your villa, but we found that by the time it gets to you on the table at your villa, it was cold. So we ended up just eating at the restaurant every morning, which was still lovely. This place was very well worth the money and would be great for those who like to be in a relaxed place where you dont often see too many other guests.

....thats how the villas looked like when we stepped into them. It was an experience close to stepping into your perfect place that you have only dreamt about. The staff were so friendly and courteous, it would make you feel conscious at times. The property is breathtaking except that the way it is built it aint best designed to be rain proof. Out of our 6 day stay, for 2 days it rained all day and our kitchen was leaking all over. It was not a big bother for us as we did not use the kitchen but it indeed may be a cause of trouble for some. One other issue we faced were the stray cats in the garden. Once a cat even bit into our breakfast between the time when it was laid out and we came out into the living area. We did report it back to the main desk but they did not replace that plate (which was surprising given their otherwise gentle, polite and ready-to-please mannerism).

The staff however were accomodating in a no. of other counts. For e.g. we had booked a one bedroom villa but were accomodated in a 2 bedroom villa. We wanted to change our bedroom after 3-4 days from the master bedroom to the guest room and they were happy to oblige. There were a no. of other small gestures as calling us cabs and generally helping us with our stuff when we returned from shopping trips that added to the experience.

The only caution is to travellers travelling during rainy season. Otherwise it is a must visit.

This review is about a year late, but I felt it was worth sharing as the hotel Pat Mase made a beautiful lasting impression on my wife and myself during our honeymoon start in Jimbaran in June 2010. We chose the place given the attractive location close to the Jimbaran Beach (which in my opinion was way better than the Nusa Dua on the other side of the island). What might surprise some readers is the very high class of Pat Mase, rooms and service included, despite its much lower price that its neighbours which are famous big brand hotels. The outcome of that? We had a giant room (a charming garden villa with the sitting room almost looking like a small temple as it was in its own building across the pool) with our own garden and pool, and an absolutely wonderful time in Jimbaran. Lovely architecture with integrated tropical gardens in the sitting room - felt luxurious. No sea view but we did not miss it either as the Jimbaran beach was so close. Conclusion: A perfect first landing spot conveniently close to the airport after arrival from Europe. Plenty of money left to have fun with during our round trip on Bali. Highly recommended.
