We had their upgraded villa (can't remember what it was called) immediately after our wedding in Bali (not the normal Bali bogan wedding, it cost $30k for 40 people, I feel the need to point that out so you don't judge me heh!). We stayed 3 nights and loved every minute.
The villa we had was a little walk (a beautiful walk) away from the main area of the hotel, perched on the side of a mountain covered in jungle, with the (Ayung?) river flowing beneath us. When we arrived we had a resident monkey family visit us - they weren't the pushy scary types, but timid wild creatures. We also had adorable little squirrels running about outside on our balcony. In our villa, the bed was the centre of the main room, overlooking the jungle valley. Then you go through doors and step across a pond with little frogs and lillypads in it, into the wardrobe and vanity mirror area, then further along are his and her showers and bathrooms. Just a lovely, luxurious experience staying in this villa.
The pool is gorgeous, although there aren't enough sun beds.
We had a romantic dinner for two served a little way into the jungle in this gorgeous little Balinese gazebo, with our own traiditional Rindik player, and the serving staff could not have been sweeter and more attentive, typical of the hospitality and care of the Balinese people- I unfortunately got a phone call during our delicious dinner that my precious kitten had been locked in our house without food or water for 6 days because the girl house sitting literally went walk-about (angry much?) - what ensued were many tears and frantic phone calls to get someone to rescue her. Our Balinese host was most distressed that we were so distraught and gave us free champagne and did everything he could to comfort us - I'm still moved by how much he cared.
Anyway, other great thigns about this place:
- the MASSAGES are AMAZING. AMAZING. We both fell asleep in utter contentment.
- the shampoo, conditioner, anti-mosquito cream (you're over the water, there's always going to be mozzies), etc, was DIVINE (I have been hoarding it), it is Alila's own brand and I've been trying to find out where I can buy it.
- jungle walks - great fun!
We didn't go white water rafting this time, but Bali is such a great place for it (and Ubud is where it is done) - if you have any sense of adventure, you MUST go white water rafting in Bali!!! But warning, don't wear thongs, we found out the hard way.
I definitely recommend you stay at Alila for a peaceful, luxurious stay where you can be alone with your loved one.
