Surya hotel is a haven closed from external varanasi. The whole complex is made of hotel, restaurant and pub all arranged around a lawn.
Location. The alley toward the hotel from main street is horrible, and it seem to bring to a slum, but the complex is located just 10 minutes by car from the chaos of ghats.
Room was small, but views toward central lawn are nice. Cleanliness of rooms is in line with indian standard, so it means dirty. No insulation from noises from ouside pub, and elevator nearby is perfectly udible. Bathroom is stained and old, and cleanliness is not so good.
Restaurant is good in quality for lunch, beeakfast is not very eatable for western customer because it is only composed of indian food, except for cerals and toast with jam. Cleanliness also is very low, but because i have never ever seen change of tablecloth, and nobody cleans table in any cass after customer changes. But it's indian standard, so better to get acquinted soon!

We stayed one night in this hotel and it seems to be a good mid-range accomodation. The room was clean with a balcony looking into the yard. The same evening there was a circu-like performans just down our balcony but we were too tired to enjoy.
They server full buffet breakfast and it the waiters are really willing to help if you need another cup of coffee. The hotel guys are always willing to help but not pushing you as in many other indian hotels.

Beautiful building, GREAT food, plenty of facilities. The breakfast was a bit overpriced and it still had that slightly dirty feel that even most of the nicer hotels have in India, but I would recommend just for the thali dinner and mojitos. Damn good!
