We had booked at Hotel Sheela but arrived a day early due to a change in transport. They were full so we went to Sheela Inn. The service was friendly from the outset. The rooms were clean but the bathroom wasn't really. The restaurant was good & the staff friendly. The water was hot and didn't run out. The lights in the rooms were a bit flickery, sometimes not turning on, and the TV in mum's room didn't work at all. It was very reasonably priced though so if we were in Agra again we would probably come again.

We had reserved at the Hotel Sheela but were of course told that our room had not yet been vacated because the occupant was ill. Not wishing to make a fuss and inconvenience someone who was likely suffering from Delhi Belly we accepted that they switch us to the Sheela Inn. We looked at a few rooms and picked the cleanest one which ended up being adequate. There were extra blankets upon request, the hot water was warm enough and the bed was ok. The staff were generally disinterested but not overtly difficult. Overal ok but nothing special. The rooftop restaurant has an ok view but wasn't great..

I booked a room with Sheela Hotel ("our pick" on Lonely Planet), arrived on the reserved date, and was shipped to this hotel because I arrived before check-in time and the hotel refused to provide baggage sotrage until I could check in. So I had to stay at the 'sister-hotel', the room wasn't the cleanest and water was lukewarm. The whole area is filled with smoke after sunset, which makes walking at night extremely unpleasant. For Rs 800, I thought this is quite expensive - but then again I suspect the whole of Agra is overpriced. I went back to Hotel Sheela the next day, paid the same amount, stayed in a slightly nicer room (with trickling hot water) in a hotel with nicer ambience. This (and Hotel Sheela) was also the only place apart from a backpacker I stayed at that asked for advance payment. I have no problem with dirt-cheap budget place asking for advance payment as service level tend to be minimal there, but at a mid-range establishment, this doesn't seem that appropriate. It gives the impression that management just want to get their money then ignore their guests (not saying they did, but the impression).

Room was pretty clean and cool. We had no hot water, and people could see in through the window in the bathroom. Otherwise, the staff seemed to be fairly friendly, though the whole place lacked atmosphere and appeared to be pretty empty when we were there.
