“Oasis of calm!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Wife & I stayed at the Mayur in Oct 2011. Negotiated a good rate so do bargain for a better deal! The room itself was pretty average but acceptable for the price I paid. What was great was that it had a marvellous pool open 24/7 [pool towels provided on request!] and a pretty garden away from the traffic noise. It was so relaxing just to sit outside the bugalow and listen to the birds! Of course, if you were lucky you could spot some monkeys too, making over the bungalow roofs!
The hotel is definitely not within walking distance of the Taj, unless you like a very long hike in the heat, dust & traffic. Autos [tuk tuks] & taxis are always at hand. The hotel has a restaurant & bar but for water & sodas it was cheaper to try the local stalls just outside the complex. A short auto drive would take you to restaurants and more shops in the Fatehabad Road.
Some of the staff hang around and watch out for the one who tried his luck with us saying there was a Rs 100 fee per person to use the pool! He backed off very quickly when I said I would take it up with the hotel manager! We did have snacks by the pool which were tasty but took some time to appear so do order in advance!
The Mayur has such potential but then I guess the rates would rocket! Right now for the price, the pool & the garden it is worth a try but don't expect the Hilton!

Room Tip: Check out a few before you decide. The ones across fromthe Reception have nicer outlooks

“It has potential.... BUT”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2010

We stayed here for one night, which is really all that you need in Agra.

The set up of this place is great. It is a series of bungalows around a large garden area and a pool. There is also some play equipment for kids. When you are in your room the noise of horns and traffic is drowned out by the birds which is a nice change from the noises you usually encounter in India.

However, the room was in need of a serious make over. It was old and dreary. The bathroom had a leaking toilet and bull ants were always present. I think in the 24 hours we were there we killed about 30. There was no hot water. Agra also has an issue with the power dropping out - every day. This place does operate on a generator so it's only briefly that you are without lighting etc.

It's a real shame, because the property really does have potential to be different from all the rest with the style that they offer. But, people are going to come to Agra no matter what, so really.... why would they bother improving it?!

We paid more than the room was worth. Again though, you're in Agra, so they can charge what they want. Food was nice and the staff were incredibly helpful and always asking if there was anything that they could do for you.

Look out for a lovely rickshaw driver called Vicky.... he made out time in Agra very memorable and fun!

“Nowhere near worth the money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2010

My girlfriend and I stayed here in March 2010, and we weren't too impressed. If you're passing through and looking for somewhere to stay for one night, it'd probably suffice. We did two nights (we'd booked in advance) and paid £30 a night for a room. Definitelty not worth that price unless you can't find an alternative place. The grounds were lovely, but staff, cleanliness and general attitude of the place was really poor. At 11pm, when we told two men who'd rushed forward to grab our bags that we only had 500 rupees, and so couldn't tip them right there, they told us they'd go and get some change for us. The next morning, the blokes who served breakfast stood over us until we gave them something for a tip. Really just a crappy attitude. The rooms were relatively clean, and it was a short tuk-tuk ride to the Taj Mahal, but otherwise definitely wouldn't recommend this place.

“Some goods but one big bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2009

Slightly disappointing.
The cottages are nice and the pool is refreshing. The staff are too helpful (hanging around for tips at every opportunity).
The hotel is about a 30 minute walk from the centre.
The hotel has a resort feel to it and offers an oasis of calm in busy Agra
