“Bad outweighs the good....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Let me start with the bad, and then you decide if you wish to continue to hear "the good".

My room had mosquitoes and bedbugs and despite complaints to change rooms or get at least some bug spray, nothing was done.

So....if that doesn't put you off...

It is very close to the railway station, places to eat, and of course Sri Meenakshi Temple.

Breakfast is included....the Indian breakfast is much better than the Western breakfast. They seem to have difficulty starting on time at 7am....so don't rush there at 7 and expect any food.

I found the front desk to be VERY helpful with information, actually.

The room was large....AC worked OK. Hot water (during morning hours only).

So.... if you can overlook mozzies and bedbugs...it's definitely for you.

(oh....and they are adding to the hotel so the new addition (very rough construction) is only closed off by a flimsy sheet.)

Room Tip: I had a room facing toward the rear and noise was NOT an issue.

“Central locality but very noisy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Staff were helpful and pleasant. Check in quick, front desk staff very polite. Our room was on the street and we could hear every station announcement, they were very loud indeed, plus sellers using loudspeakers, we could also hear all the passing cars, people talking in the road, a mad cacophany of horns and revving engines etc all the time. The room was small, it had no wardrobe just a small cupboard with 2 hooks. The bedsheets felt damp. The shower and toilet area was again very small and hot water was only available between 5am and 9am. There was a limited choice of food for breakfast but again staff were helpful in bringing us toast and black coffee, the omelettes had obivously been made some time in advance and were thin and chewy. We ate lunch in the hotel and the food was ok but nothing exceptional. Pluses were the central location, nearby the railway station (a little too close actually), Sri Meenakshi was within walking distance. The bar was closed and some renovations were going on while we stayed there but not sure what they were actually doing to improve the hotel. We would not return to this particular hotel even though we enjoyed our overall visit to Madurai.

Room Tip: Make sure your room is not on the street if possible or expect a very poor nights sleep.

“Hotel with an attitude problem”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Despite having made a booking and paid in advance for the room we were kept waiting 45 minutes when we wanted to check-in. We were told at first to wait 10 minutes. After 15 minutes I went back to the desk to see if I could check in. The front desk manager looked down his nose at me, as if I wasn't good enough to stay in his hotel because I didn't come in one of the tour groups. No apology was offered for keeping us waiting so long.

When we finally got our room it had no towels, and we had to ask multiple times before any arrived.

We were woken early in the morning by the sounds of the hotel staff talking to each other loudly in the hallway.

The funniest, and saddest this was when we ordered a pot of coffee through room service. What arrived was a pot of faintly brown tinted water, as if someone poured it through an old coffee machine without adding any grounded beans.

The room was actually fairly clean and modern, although even in this class of hotel they can't figure out how to provide 24hours hot water.

This hotel could be so much better.

“Convenient location, pleasant staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

The location is useful - close to the railway station, the shops, and the Sri Meenakshi temple. The street the hotel is on is not the smartest but do not let that deter you as the inside of the hotel is comfortable. You can walk to the main places easily. The rooms are simple and clean as are the bathrooms. The windows are not large so do not expect expansive views from your room. The restaurant on the roof is a great place to relax and view the lights of the town and temple in the evening - the food is good, not expensive and the staff are friendly.
There is a travel desk in reception which offers interesting local day tours which are worth the money.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter, as are higher floors

“Not worth of money you spend here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Rooms were ok, but not the worth they charge for....maintenance of the washrooms was poor. food is bad. The only advantage is that its centrally located and the market and all the main attractions are nearby

Room Tip: Just see the room before you checked-in...don't go for the road side rooms as they will be noisy...
