I’m not regular at contributing to reviews, and I guess this review, six months after staying at Bison Valley cottage, supports my statement. Back in Jun’10, me and my friends stayed at Devashola estate during a weekend. A common friend had shared his experiences and recommended this place to us, in particular the Mango Tree or Pallaniappa cottages. These cottages were already booked, however we were offered the rooms at Bison valley.
Looking back at our stay in Bison Valley and also a couple of other locations in South India where I spent a slightly longer holiday with my family recently, I think my experience at Bison Valley was very good, pleasant and worth sharing, probably because the place is less commercialized, very natural, and good hospitality from the staff who made us feel like the treatment was personalized. The cottage & bathroom was neat and the good vegetarian food served was hot, timely and tasted like authentic local preparation.
Glad there was no television at the cottage… got more time with my camera to capture the pleasant, green and natural surroundings. Next morning, when I started walking around the estate, I realized how big and beautiful this place was. Thanks to the estate staff member(or manager?) on duty that day who took us on an hour’s drive around the estate, showing places where Elephants and Bisons had strolled the previous night, a hamlet where estate workers stayed, a full time adventure camp for guests, a weather station setup by the Govt and interesting trekking locations. I could not get into evrything, but ensured I took a enough pictures. Believe, there were some more indoor and outdoor activities in the estate.
I still remember casually mentioning to the staff member about our failed attempt to book our stay at Mango Tree cottage. Must say, we were surprised when he took us to the cottage and showed how much more beautiful the entire surroundings appeared from one of the highest point's in the estate.
I haven’t visited the estate after that, but when planning a holiday for my parents, I noticed Devashola was on Trip Advisor, and felt that for the hospitality as well as the superior quality of this place, I should contribute to the review. Will post my parent's experience later. Regards.
