Looking to stay at Coimbatore can be daunting with so many hotels in mid-segment hotels vying for your stay..unless you want to stay in a upscale or luxury hotel where options are limited...but then this property..Alankar Grande comes as good option to derive value for your money...its well located and has fantastic access to railway station and the airport though you might want to be more than punctual as the roads around this neighbourhood tend to get clogged in the evenings...Also the fact that's its location is such that you actually can go out and try various other food outlets in the city is a plus so you can escape the boredom of eating in same hotel all through your stay...so lets get on with the actual aspects of the hotel....
The best aspects of the hotel are as follows - classy taste of the owner which is seen in many ways like the 1940 Ford car outside the hotel and the classy model cars and bikes displayed in lobby of various floors; an ambience of an luxurious hotel with classy elevation; large spacious rooms and free Wifi which is so obstinately refused in other hotels which charge bomb to browse internet.
The above alone make you want to stay here more often but then along come the negatives which can make you thnk twice - spatial organisation of rooms are crazy, so much so you can actually end up in rooms with no windows and feels like you are in a luxurious prison cell; because some room dont have windows and the mechnical ventilation only works when rooms are occupied, rooms also smell damp..and that is absolute turn off...I did change rooms immediately and specifically asked for room with window to view outside. A suggestion, when booking for room ask for thosefacing the road or those on 2 nd floor facing the internal court to provide you a relief. Then of course the bathrooms;I still fail to understand why most hotels in India just dont get the bathrooms right!! The room i stayed in had a bathtub which is esentially the wet area and it leaked, so you had a bathroom which was wet everywhere..and yes the mechanical ventilator just doesnot work enough to remove steam if you have hot bath.
Well other aspects which are just minor irritants like the TV is located at distance which makes you feel the the owners are concerned for your eyes and of course the perennial problem of TV remotes not working at that distance. A hotel of this stature should think twice about having refrigrators which donot stock anything but then are relics in the room. The A/c is too strong that you really have to cover up when sleeping and you can only either switch it off or keep it on, not much options, so request if the hotel management is reading this request they have automated A/C console for the rooms. Also I do think having actual keys for hotel room access is antiquated because you do actually feel it in your pcokets when walking around doing your stuff in the city, so request to change the locks to card access systems. Also, last recommendation, there should not be furniture left in corridors which I did find the hotel on all days of my stay.
Now coming to the section I love best- food. I thought that the spread of food is actually good with the food tasting good too. However, the breakfast really needs to be revamped because a couple of dishes which were repeatedly served for the 3 days I stayed here and then there is no toaster, and also no fruit cuts which would make you want to eat it. Also if you are planning to sit on one of those 2 seater tables, better make sure if the table is stable because me and my colleague did make a circus trying to balance the table at level and eat our food.
So, to wind up, this hotel is definitely on my list of recommendations for those looking for value for money and yet expecting luxury on their stay. Just that a few things you would want to be cautious and check up in room before falling flat on the mattress, so that you can worry less about stuff and rather do what you actually intended too.
Important - Do insist on getting rooms with windows otherwise you shall regret and best are to stay...
