We were in Udaipur for a relaxed trip. Our plans included spending time walking around and seeing the country side a bit (in addition to the usual palaces etc.). Devra turned out to the best choice:

- Very helpful hosts and good, home cooked food. Different from impersonal hotels and fattening food! Almost all the food comes from their own farms which are around the house
- Perfect rural settings. The ability to just walk out of the house to a real farm brings memories back to childhood. And all the different birds and squirrels who come around in the morning
- Clean and neat
- If you sit down with the major and wife in teh evening or go for a walk around the house, you will be surely well entertained by the amount of information they can provide about the history and culture of the place. So, really can take back some very good memories and stories.

We stayed at Devra for three nights in early January and enjoyed it immensely. The Major and his wife are very friendly and great hosts. The house is just outside Udaipur, in a lovely rural setting, and the view of the lake, and the palace, from the roof deck is spectacular. It is still however, close enough to be in the old town in fifteen minutes, and the Major can arrange comfortable transportation with an English speaking driver for a very reasonable cost. (If you can, I suggest you have him arrange your pickup from wherever you are coming from). The rooms were comfortable, spacious, very clean, and stylish. The food was excellent and wine no problem. The boys were discreetly attentive at breakfast and dinner, so service was good, and pleasantly informal. It was a little cold at night as you would expect in January, but there were big heaters in the room, and extra blankets available on request, (the hot water was fine once you got the hang of it). The Major is quite the raconteur and if you are lucky he will spend some time with you. Last time we were in Udaipur we stayed at the Lake Palace for three night and it was fantastic, however if I return ever to Udaipur I will definitely stay at Devra (for about one tenth of the price!)

A lovely location and at first sight a good choice but in mid-January it was cold, no hot water and food was very poor. It was a bit off-putting to have the boys who were serving at dinner hovering right next to us as we ate.. Maybe an off-day as they have many good reviews and awards so perhaps we were just unlucky

This is by far one of the most serene places I have ever been to in Rajasthan. The hosts are amazing and the home cooked meals are just absolutely yummy. Its the perfect and only place one ought to stay in when in Udaipur.
Coming back again for sure
