“Experience was not so good...........”

We were gone to Udaipur to start our Rajasthan trip but from there itself we realise that nobody understand the pain of a traveller...we asked about Raas Leela too approx 25 people but noone had told us the right direction to go there.........Then finally we called at Raas Leela reception, they had told us to come to Leela Palace and its just the same....when we reached Leela Palace, the security guard told us that they don't have any information about us...Finally we called them again n they they told us that they are sending an auto n there is no other option bcoz we can reach that place by an auto only....
we were so tired at that time bcoz we had already wasted our 3 hrs to find the hotel only....we kept our car parked near the street n finally the auto arrived, bcoz it was a long trip we were having lots of luggage with us....n with all that luggage we went through those dirty streets, where only an auto can move without any space left......when we reached Raas Leela we came to know that there were no reception too........n some construction was going on.....n that was nt a part of Leela Palace too......The price of tents is really very high, n the way to reach that place is pathetic.............the food is expensive too.....for four persons one dinner costs us INR 4500/-....
We came to know that we are the only two families who gone there......only three tents are oprational n more 2 r under construction..........but the view from rooms was really nice.........little bit risky for kids bcoz of the adjoining lake which is w/o any fencing......
so its better to stay near Fatehsagar Lake inspite of ...........

Room Tip: Interior was cool n nice........toilets was clean n fresh but the lock was not working.......

“Perfect Location and priceless view, but some issues to iron out”

My wife and I stayed a few nights at Raas Leela tents as part of our honeymoon in India. They had only been opened for two months, and with no Trip Advisor reviews to guide us, we chanced it as it looked great on the website. The setup is 5 'luxury tents'. Each has a veranda and en suite bathroom, solid walls, wooden doors and glass windows. It looks like only the roofs are tents, so they are pretty sturdy and you don't feel like you are camping! The tents have air-con, cable TV, a small fridge etc in them. Tent 1 is the most desirable as it has windows overlooking the lake including one from the bathroom. Tents 2 and 3 are next door, then tents 4 and 5 are perpendicular to these at the back of the property. Tent 4 has a slightly obstructed view due to a small temple in the center of the grounds.

The Good:
1. The location. Squeezed in between the Leela Kempinski Resort and it's spa facilities, right on the lake's edge with an uninterrupted view of the lake palace etc. Being able to sit on your balcony or breakfast table and have this view was amazing.
2. The ground staff. They seemed genuinely friendly and helpful at all times, and we got the feeling they really were trying their best even when things weren't going well (see my bad points below).
3. Breakfast and dinner were included in the booking price. Most places have breakfast included, but dinner was a bonus. Both were substantial and delicious. All meals are served on the lawn with that fantastic view, and dinner with the table candles and braziers lit feels quite romantic. I would recommend even non-guests try this place out for dinner.

The Bad:
1. Double bookings. We booked and paid for our stay about 2 months prior to arrival. We also called the day before arrival to confirm our stay and all seemed fine. On arrival we were told that they had no space and we would be put up in their sister hotel. At the same time there was a large group setting up to have lunch there, some of whom seemed to be staying there, and others who were just arriving with their suitcases ready to be taken into two of the tents. Since the main reason we picked this place is the location on the lake's edge, we refused. This got escalated to one of the management who told us it wasn't their fault, that one of their existing guests was due to check out today but their child was sick, so they couldn't. We held our ground asking to meet the guest with the sick child. They left us and after some discussion with the arriving group, two of their new arrivals were moved to another hotel and we got the room they were going to move into. It appeared that there was no sick child and they had just double booked us and made up the story.
Before we arrived we had requested tent number 1, and as this big group who had all the other tents were checking out the next day I asked the manager if we could then move into tent 1. He informed me that another guest that was bumped overnight to the sister hotel was going to get it because of this. It appeared that double booking here was commonplace. Considering that the main reason that people want to stay it the location and view (and this is why we accept the premium price) this is not acceptable.
2. Hot water.
Currently only tents 1, 2, and 3 have electric cylinders for hot water. Hot water for the shower and sink in tents 4 and 5 is heated by a heater or fire near the kitchen. This means you need to tell them that you want a shower an hour before you have it. Not really acceptable for this price. They need to install electric cylinders on all tents.
3. The details. For a place that is almost brand new, there were already a few broken bits and pieces that needed to be fixed. The light that used to be above our bathroom mirror had disappeared, leaving a hole in the wall, the room tables were quite dirty, the lamp outside our balcony wasn't working, in order to stand under the shower stream you had to basically lean against the wall etc. For the price they are charging, you would expect them to keep on top of the maintenance of the place.
4. The location. I know I listed this as a positive above, but it needs to be said that to get to the place the last 100 meters or so are on very skinny lanes that a car cannot fit into, so you end up walking these, which can be hard work with luggage. These are also very steep both going up, then down again as you approach the property. They do have their own bright pink rickshaw that will take you from their place to the road. It would be nice if they let you know before you arrived so you could call it rather than lugging your luggage. Also a bit more signposting so a taxi could find it when you first arrive would be good.

Overall, it is a nice place. We have recommended below, but only if they could 100% guarantee that we were not double booked, and only in tents 1,2, or 3 (until they sort out the hot water in 4 and 5). I hope the management take notice of the points above because a few small changes would make this place very recommendable (without any caveats).
