“This comfortable hotel is set within beautiful gardens, and really handy for Ranthambore NP.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2011

The Pug is a great base from which to explore Ranthambore national park due to its proximity to the entrance gates. The hotel itself consists of comfortable cottage style rooms, which all open out onto the lovely gardens which are undoubtably the hotel's best feature. The best time to enjoy these is before those early morning safaris, a morning cup of coffee surrounded by all the bird and wildlife was a great way to wake yourself up at 5.30 am. The gardens also contain a swimming pool - great for relaxing between safaris in the afternoon.

The service we received was good, we needed to move rooms during our stay because the air conditioning was not working properly (it was pumping out warm air - not good in the Indian summertime), however the staff were reasonably helpful and moved us as soon as we asked. The next room we were given was fine.

The food was fairly average, enjoyable the first time, but there wasn't much variety in the buffet. I was ok with the choice of Indian dishes, but others in my family are fussier and struggled to find food they could eat. One further point about the food is that you will be charged for every little thing you ask for which isn't in the buffet.

One piece of advice about booking safairs, it is worthwhile being quite pushy about which zone you are booked into - as they are likely to book zones 1 or 2 in this hotel. You have little or no chance of spotting a tiger in these zones. It really is worth sticking to your guns and demanding to be booked into zone 3 or 4, where your chances are greatly increased.

We stayed in this hotel for one night..............Their prices are high for the quality of rooms.........The staff is not polite at all.....Even manager/ owner, Mr. Sameer went back on his words and charged us extra money for booking the safari, we never asked for..... I will say stay away from this hotel as they will rip you off.....

Room Tip: High Prices, impolite staff, Bad food quality

“a good option for Ranthambore”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2011

The room was spacious and very nice, but fairly basic. The grounds are well looked after and this is a pleasant place to stay when you are going to Ranthambore. About 20 mins drive from the train station and the same to the park entrance. The staff were extremely helpful in facilitating our safari trips by liasing with the park authorities

“A charmingly rustic place on the edge of the Park.”

Group of 8 friends (pensioners) from Italy. We were booked at The Pugmark by the Tour Operator who organised our Indian tour, Travel Shastra in New Delhi and spent 2 nights there 20-21 Nov 2010. It is a rustic hotel, very suited to the place. We stayed in the Standard bungalows: the rooms are basic but spacious and airy, comfy beds, good size bathroom. We were on a Full Board Plan, which is the normal Plan in Ranthambore as the hotel is really in the middle of nowhere, and found that the food was plentiful and of good quality. Friendly staff. In-situ evening entertainment provided by local dancers. Pleasant all-around atmosphere. Cool in the evenings and very cold in the early morning safari. We didn't see any tigers, but we did see plenty of colourful birds, deer, a big croc and several monkeys, plus the scenic beauty of the Park.

“A quiet hotel, nice location, helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2011

The picture of reception in the adverts is nothing like reality, however once through the 'cave reception' you are greeted by pleasant gardens and space between the cottages to give privacy. The pool was clean. More beds needed as these were 'bagged' early on with towels!
The rooms were clean. Dining room was rather lacking in atmosphere and echoed so noisy when a number of people all talking but the food was very good and the dining room staff very attentive and helpful at all times. Coffee was provided in the garden at 6.30am before going on safari and breakfast waiting when you returned.
I would strongly recommended paying extra for a jeep rather than the 16 seater safari truck. We had to wait over an hour one cold morning while it picked people up. Also seats were crowded and some people blocking the view of others. We did see a tiger close up but the trucks drove at high speed over very rough roads. Tipping was a problem as if they felt you had not given enough they would ask for more.
The hotel had a tip box. I would certainly stay at this hotel again and perferred it to the larger busier one next door. It was in a remote location but this was not a problem as we were full board during this part of our holiday.
