Me and a group of friends stayed at Ratan Vilas at Jodhpur. What an amazing place! As soon as we entered, we were taken in by the beautifully maintained garden and pool. The staff is so courteous and polite. They went out of their way to accommodate our needs. We had booked 4 rooms as there were 8 of us. The rooms were very beautiful and spacious. Unlike modern hotels where the rooms are small, the rooms at Ratan Vilas are very big and airy, including the bathrooms. I just loved the rooms there. They have oil heaters in the rooms too, which really helped as it was quite cold at night.
The food at Ratan Vilas is also good. You have to tell them specifically if you want authentic Rajasthan cuisine, which is spicy. Otherwise, they make the food less spicy as most of their guests are foreigners. The staff at Ratan Vilas is their best asset. Everyone - right from the bell boys to the waiters to the reception guys to the owner himself - is very gracious and helpful. The owner, Mr Brijraj, monitors everything very closely, and stays very involved with the functioning of the place, which really helps maintain the quality of service. Even though we were a large group, they took really good care of us.
The ambience of the hotel is also very royal and regal. They have family pictures everywhere, and the architecture is also very quaint, which gives the place a very authentic Rajasthan look and feel. If I ever visit Jodhpur again, I wouldn't stay anywhere other than Ratan Vilas.
