“Hotel inside the "Sonar Kella" - the Golden Fort.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

It was a thrilling experience to stay inside the historic "Sonar Kella". The rooms being a part of the fort have stone walls - but comfortably furnished with carpets, dhurries and artifacts and has a modern bathroom with running hot & cold water. The hotel is situated on the top of the fort and the view is fantastic. In fact the open-air dining area is great! The food was as per order and very good. The hotel also has internet facilities.

“palace on fort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

had made prior bookings via their website. capton replies email rather promptly. owner was a little bit dishonest when he tried to charge me more than what he had quoted in the email, but i was lucky to have printed out the email as a proof.

other than this, everything about this hotel is great. really friendly staff that made me feel like home. even when i checked out and was waiting for train, they offered me a place to rest which is really nice of them.

i had a double room without washroom. room is huge, clean, and very good for indian budget standard. washroom can get a little dirty since it doubles as a toilet for all the other hotel guest too. hot water is lukewarm at best, but it works for me.

staying at the hotel has been a great experience for me, for i was able to stay in a fort for the first time. the surrounding of hotel is made up of vendors and shops selling all sorts of souvenirs, and it added to the wonderful atmosphere of the fort.

i also did the camel safari with them. it was alright. as capton had promised, the place where we spend the night had no other tourist at all. it was also a small and intimate group of 3 person, so we had lots of chance to try doing everything, from cooking to setting up fire, and many more. certainly one of the best experiences in jaisalmer.

“Nice hotel inside the fort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We stayed for 4 nights. The room was clean and the staff very nice and helpful.
The hotel has a nice roof restaurant and another terrace with really nice views and many space to relax and read a book :)

The wi-fi is to slow, but sometimes works... be patient!

The food is really nice although they don't cook it. Another hotel in the same street cooks for them, so you can taste the same food paying less money! We realized the second day and went for a Maharaja Thali, really nice!

“Adequate accomodation inside the fort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Overall this place is ok. On the positive side there was 24/7 hot water, the rates were pretty good, and the room was relatively clean. The bathroom was a little grotty but not too bad considering that the building is quite old, we burnt some incense and that seemed to clear the stuffy air in the bathroom. There is also a little alcove with a chair with large shutters that acts as a sort of balcony. The location is also excellent, right by the gate to the fort.
On the less positive side the staff were a little pushy and the food in the restaurant was not good. Also, the service in the restaurant was incredibly slow.

“Very nice budget place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Lovely Hotel inside the fort, with a hard-to-beat view from the rooftop terrace.
Don´t expect european standard, but the rooms (had a deluxe with balcony and AC) are clean, the bathroom is ok for local standard, hot water and power 24/7.
Food is ok, the location is just perfect, also the view from the room.
If you´re looking for a budget place to stay, and you´re fine with a bathroom according to good indian standard, this is the place to go to.
