My Wife & Brotherinlaw toured India for two weeks in January of 2012, and the highlight of the trip was waking up at 6am to the call to prayer in our 856 year-old room in the Hotel Garh. The view of Jaisalmer (essentially a medieval village) from our balcony was world-class! Pluses:
1 - The owner, his Nephew, and the rest of the staff couldn't have been nicer, or more accomodating.
2 - The owner's Nephew acted as our excellent guide for three days, and they never charged us a penny! We gave him a 1,200 Rupee tip - well worth it.
3 - We bought dinner each night at the hotel, and the owner's family prepared gorgeous local cuisine that was safe for our American immune systems - with 2 bottles of wine and 1 bottle of wiskey. We were only charged about $45 for three dinners!
4 - We had a beautiful suite with a huge tiled bathroom with a nice flush toilet.
5 - Their Camel Safari was awesome! We're still talking about it.
6 - The hotel Garh is physically in the ancient fort!
Negatives:
A - Heating was via space heater (no big deal to us)
B - Even though they provide a shower, please use as little water as you can - you're in a desert!

This hotel is exquisite, with wonderful antique furnishings, window seats that offer a constantly changing, sweeping panorama for miles away, large bathroom (lots of room to hang your laundry and the dry desert air dries it overnight), and excellent breakfast in the rooftop restaurant. The staff were so helpful, informative and pleasant as well. I just loved it! We had begun our stay in a hotel that was not within walking distance of the fort, and moved to Garh Jaisal instead. It is wonderful to be right in the fort.

On this return trip, our hosts made us even more welcome than last time. Mukesh, who owns the Guest house, treated us most kindly, and each evening arranged dinner for us on the rooftop terrace. We had tasty home-cooked local cuisine courtesy of his family and Delicious Indian cuisine, brought across town from his new restaurant. Filipino the manager and his colleagues were always on hand to provide us with refreshments and give advice on local sights.
The rooms are as charming as ever, with balcony window-seats, exotic draperies and carved furniture and stonework.
We left Garh Jaisal having made good friends, who we are grateful to for all their kindnesses.

our stay here was simply amazing, our room was stunning and sparking clean! we had a window seat balcony looking over the fort. Food was beautiful and staff were wonderful what more can i say, thumbs up all round! perfect
