“A hotel that tries to hoodwink customers and does deserve to be in hospitality business”

We, a family of 10, went to this hotel at about 2100 hours on 5th Jan after visiting Ajantha caves. Initially the Manager at reception desk told us that the hotel has only two executive suites available and no other rooms are vacant. We were asked to inspect the executive suites and didn't feel it could accommodate everyone. After looking at few hotels nearby that weren't very good we came back to Hotel Windsor. This time the Manager told us that he can give us 4 rooms at level 1 and that would cost us INR 11000 in total just for the night with free brakfast.

The hotel staff was supposed to give us two additional mattresses, that took more than one hour to get. We were so tired that all of us went to bed immediately. When we got up the next morning, we could see what a substandard room they leased us at such exorbitant tariff.

In the morning, we got the Manager at reception over along with the maintenance manager to show them the conditions of the four rooms. There was a blame game played between the two managers.
The window curtains were torn,. In another room, the window couldn't be closed fully. No curtains on the bathtubs in any room that had the shower inside. The roof panels were not assembled properly / had holes in them through which insects were crawling out. Bathroom ceiling panel had a 50 mm wide opening right along the length of the bathroom. Bathtubs, toilet bowls and walls were filthy, bathroom mirror in very bad condition, toilet seats loose, bath room doors cannot be locked and cracked wall tiles. Please check the photos attached.

The reception manager refused to give the contact details of the MD and / or CEO of the hotel.

I would like to know, how on earth this hotel was given a permit to operate in such a bad shape ?

This hotel does not deserve to have a rating at all. I certainly will not recommend this hotel to even my worst enemy.

“I can definitely add this hotel to my worst hotel list!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2011

The mattress in the rooms are quite bad, my room had an unclean ash tray, used bottle of water and glass, etc.

The bathroom was quite dirty and the WC was not clean either. The staff seemed friendly but I checked out after one night since the facilities are bad and do not support the rates!

“Not worth the money”

This hotel is rated 4 (or 3) stars. In my opinion, it is not in that class. The room we stayed in had badly damaged plaster on the walls. Linen was clean and the room itself was functionally OK but certainly not in a 'star' class. The free breakfast served every morning was just about of the bare-bones type. Basically the hotel is quite alright for a quick 2-3 day stay where you want a place to sleep after your hectic day of sight seeing but if you are looking for any type of luxury or relaxation in this hotel, you will be very disappointed. All in all, I felt that it was not worth the Rs 2500+ per night.

“Convenient for the airport and comfortable rooms with decent food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2011

The rooms are airy, spacious and well furnished and are kept spotlessly clean. The air-conditioning is both quiet and efficient, though the electronic control panel for lighting, TV etc baffled us to start with (a problem of advancing years, I fear). We found the staff very pleasant, friendly and helpful and transport to both Ajanta and to the amazing Ellora caves were efficiently arranged for us. Breakfasts are varied and predominately buffet style with eggs, coffee and toast done to order too. The service is rather “Faulty Towers” though this added to our enjoyment of the place as we built up a rapport with the staff and accepted it as part of our India experience. Everyone in the dining room was trying like mad and they were all willing to converse with us – mainly about the progress of the Indian cricket match being played at the time. The hotel bar adjoining the restaurant proved a convenient watering hole though the price of Kingfisher beer was a little high. Reception was courteous and helpful at all times and even the owner of the hotel gave us a lift to a shopping precinct nearby in his own car – a nice personal touch that was well appreciated. The hotel is not too far from the airport and transfers are easily arranged. We would thoroughly recommend staying at the Windsor Castle
