We wanted to get away to a beach site for chilling and some snorkeling / diving so we had either Maledives or Lakshadweep in mind.
No comparison in terms of value for money, that is sure, looking at min 400 US$ per night at Maledives, also the flight from within India is cheaper to Agatti compared to Male
Surely, for the comfort provided, the Bangaram Island Resort is no bargain either, however
- if you take the 2 bedroom hut, rooms are spacious and comfortable, barring however the heat since there are ceiling fans only but no aircondition
- staff attitude was really amazing - never found this extent of active thinking in any staff working at Taj or Oberoi
- food is great, even more noticeable since they have to bring everything (but coconuts) by air/ship from the mainland
- the setting is amazing, the rooms are right at the beach (see sunrise pic attached)
- water in the lagoon is predominately turquoise, crystal clear and with loads of coral spots and even more different fish - great for snorkeling right away your room
- scuba diving can be done also right away from there or you take a open water dive to many places both inside and outside the lagoon
- heading back, its highly recommendable to do the turtle snorkeling off the shores of Agatti airport, mind blowing experience swimming along with these huge creatures.
The only noticeable downside is, though, that the groundwater on the island contains sulphur, which is giving a "not so nice" smell in the shower.
And a minor issue, they should mildly amend their room rates and stop charging for drinking water separately, just to save the hazzle
All in all a full recommendation though, we paid including daily snorkeling with equipment rental, scuba dives, turtle snorkeling and 2 open water fishing trips and all drinks about 210 USD per room per night, which it is very much worth it
